Jurgen Klopp’s chances of ending his Liverpool tenure with one more Premier League crown have taken a serious dip ahead of Saturday’s trip to the London Stadium to face West Ham United. The Reds came off a distant second in Wednesday’s Merseyside derby and lost 2-0 at Goodison Park as Everton sealed its first home win in the rivalry fixture since 2010 to all but guarantee top-flight safety. At the opposite end of the table, however, Liverpool now require at least one significant slip-up from each of Arsenal and Manchester City if it’s to get its hands back on the title once more.

To call the midweek derby result unexpected would be putting things lightly as the Toffees walked out of Goodison as deserved 2-0 victors over their arch-nemeses.

Jarrad Branthwaite tucked home the opening goal before Dominic Calvert-Lewin devastated the Reds further, and the truth is Liverpool rarely looked like scoring in the match:

In a matter of weeks, Klopp & Co have gone from competing on three fronts to desperation status in the search for just one trophy, and the Premier League doesn’t look all that likely at this late stage.

That being said, there are more difficult opponents than a West Ham side boasting just one win from its last eight fixtures across all competitions.

Not only that, but David Moyes’ men haven’t won a league game at home in more than two months, which is excellent news for a Liverpool team scheduled to play its fourth straight fixture on the road.

Cody Gakpo could be brought back into the Reds XI provided the Dutchman is fit, with Darwin Nunez failing to impress up against the Everton defense in midweek.

Diogo Jota and Conor Bradley remain sidelined for Liverpool at present, though West Ham is hoping Jarrod Bowen, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Nayef Aguerd each pass late fitness tests.

Regional restrictions may apply.
