While the Cardinals relied on mostly singles to bring runs home in yesterday’s win, the Pirates hit a couple home runs, but it wasn’t enough to overcome No. 2, St. Louis.
In today’s game, the Cards will look to first basemen Paul Goldschmidt to help produce runs. Goldschmidt’s batting average is the highest on the team at .327. St. Louis will also look to Nolan Arenado who currently leads the team in home runs with nine and RBIs with 31.
The Pirates will look to Ke’Bryan Hayes and Ben Gamel on offense. Hayes leads Pittsburgh with a .288 batting average while Gamel leads in RBIs with 15.
Matthew Liberatore will get his first start of the year for the Cardinals today. The Pirates will look to Jose Quintana who is 1-1 on the season with a 2.98 ERA and 30 strikeouts.
