On the mound today are two pitchers looking for their wins this season in Detroit’s right-hander Casey Mize (0-0) in his fourth start taking on Minnesota’s Louie Varland (0-3) also in his fourth start of the year.

In the first game of the series Detroit won 5-4 behind five singles that brought home runners. Wenceel Perez brought home the game winning run in the top of the ninth with two runners on. Parker Meadows was able to run home and put away the win for Detroit to kick off the series.

Then in the second game of the series Minnesota evened things up with a 4-3 win holding a late rally from Detroit who scored all three of its runs between the sixth and eighth innings after falling behind by four runs. All four runs came on sacrifice fly balls and a fielder’s choice to nickel and dime their way to a win.
