The Dallas Cowboys should be so much better than their record shows. Without Saquon Barkley for the rest of the season, the New York Giants are about as good as their winless record shows. But that didn't stop the Giants from nearly pulling off an upset of the Los Angeles Rams last week, who have been much improved from last year. They held the Rams to just 17 points but couldn't score more than 9, even though they were only down one point late in the fourth quarter. The Giants were driving only down a score but Daniel Jones threw a pick at the Rams five-yard line to seal the victory.
As close as the game was, that wasn't even close to the main headline from that game. The Giants and Rams, rather Jalen Ramsey and Golden Tate, engaged in some extracurricular activities and ended the game in an all out brawl. If you want to know more about why Ramsey and Tate were fighting in the first place, you can read more here. Their family matters go way past last Sunday's game. This rivalry between the NFC's two biggest markets is going to be exciting for some time to come. While that fight has the potential to be demoralizing, they have to take that energy into Arlington if they have any chance of upsetting the Cowboys.

Now where to begin with the Cowboys? The have been slightly favored in every one of their games except their matchup with the Seattle Seahawks who are one of the best teams, if not the best, in the league. They'll be heavily favored against the winless Giants. But it doesn't seem to have any justification anymore. This team could easily be 0-4 right now if it wasn't for the Falcons being the Falcons and blowing a 16-point lead in the 4th quarter.
You have to give some credit to the Cowboys offense and their resilience though. Dak Prescott has stupid numbers even if they don't amount to wins. He is leading the league with 1,690 passing yards. The Cowboys were down 41-14 in the 4th quarter against the Browns and Prescott brought them within striking distance of a comeback, only to lose 49-38. Coach Mike McCarthy was brought into Dallas to develop Prescott the way he did Aaron Rodgers and revitalize this offense when it got stagnant under now Giants Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett. This has largely happened through the first quarter of the season but the common theme throughout these losses is their defense.
This unit has given up at least 38 points in the past three games. The last time that happened was in the Cowboys' inaugural year in 1960. Former Texans coach Bill O'Brien got fired for an 0-4 start. The Cowboys haven't been much better than their Texas counterparts. The only reason McCarthy isn't on the hotseat is because it's his first year and Jerry Jones gives his head coaches all the time in the world. Really to a fault. The good news for the Cowboys is that if they get an expected win and the Eagles lose to the Steelers as expected, they will be leading the division. But they can't afford to play worse than their capable once again especially against the winless Giants.
