The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup continues on Wednesday with Men’s Giant Slalom action.
The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is the top international circuit of alpine skiing competitions, with the event being launched in 1966 by a group of ski racing friends and experts, which included French journalist Serge Lang and the alpine ski team directors from France and the United States, Honore Bonnet and Bob Beattie. The competition was soon backed by International Ski Federation President Marc Hodler during the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Portillo, Chile. The tournament then became an official FIS event in the spring of 1967 after the FIS Congress in Beirut, Lebanon. Furthermore, the inaugural World Cup race was held on Jan. 5, 1967 in Berchtesgaden, West Germany, a slalom which was won by Heinrich Messner of Austria. Finally, Jean-Claude Killy of France and Nancy Greene of Canada were the overall winners for the first two seasons.

The 2024-25 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is the 59th World Cup season for men and women as the highest level of international alpine skiing competitions.
The current season started on Oct. 26, 2024 in Sölden, Austria, and will end on March 27, 2025 at the finals in Sun Valley.
Marco Odermatt and Lara Gut-Behrami, who are both from Switzerland, are the reigning champions from the previous season.
