How to Watch South Carolina at Florida

The SEC started play last week and it mostly went as expected. Alabama is still very good at football. Florida and Georgia looked dominant and will be an exciting battle for front runner in the East. Tennessee looks to be back to their winning ways as they solidified why they should be ranked after a exciting and close victory against South Carolina. There was shock though as the defending National Champion LSU Tigers lost against the incomparable Mike Leach and the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Tigers became the first defending national champion in more than two decades to lose a season opener.

The biggest SEC matchup of the morning in Week 5 will feature the Gators who host the Gamecocks. Florida improved their ranking from #5 to #3 after they beat Ole Miss 51-35. At one point the game was 41-14. South Carolina on the other hand just lost to the Volunteers by four.  In the last four seasons facing his old team, Will Muschamp has only beat the Gators once. They've all been close except in 2016, Muschamp's first year as the Gamecocks coach. Expect another close matchup as South Carolina has a much better defense than Ole Miss.

Florida's home opener will feature an air raid that would make the Air Force proud. Quarterback Kyle Trask was phenomenal through the air going 30-42, 416 yards and six touchdowns. As crazy as those stats are, he may not have been the best Kyle on the field. That distinction would go to his Tight End Kyle Pitts. Against Ole Miss he had eight receptions for 170 yards and half of those receptions went for touchdowns. Pitts earned the starting TE spot last season with 649 yards and five touchdowns. He's likely to match or surpass his touchdown total in this game. If he keeps up this production, expect him to be the first TE off the board in 2021.

For South Carolina, they have a very different answer to keep up with this air attack. Their leading receiver against the Vols also happened to be their leading rusher. Running Back Kevin Harris went for nearly half of QB Collin Hill's 290 passing yards. Not to mention Harris had a touchdown through the air and on the ground. He was relatively quiet on the ground with 55 yards but has made it clear he is the number one starter. Muschamp usually has approaches the position by committee but that might finally change this year with Harris' exciting performance.

Hill had a competition of his own in the offseason to earn the starting QB spot but he is going to have to step up more than last week to keep his job. Not that he was bad but to keep up with this Gators team is going to take a lot more. The Gamecocks in the end will have to rely on their running back too much and the Gators have a variety of weapons which gives them a distinct advantage in this one.
