The 2024 IIHF World Championships begin Friday in Czechia, with Norway taking on Switzerland in the Group A opener

A total of 16 teams descend on Czechia on Friday for the start of the 2024 IIHF World Championships. Group A play begins at Prague Arena with 13th-seeded Norway facing off with No. 5 seed Switzerland. Seeding for the top 14 teams is based on their finish at last year’s worlds in Finland and Latvia. The Swiss, with six NHL players on their roster, won their group last year before falling in the quarterfinals and look for redemption as well as their first medal since taking a silver in 2018. The Norwegians, which have never medaled, feature no NHL talent.
