While in jail, Wingfoot is forced to escape with ruthless prisoner Reno Benton (Lee Van Cleef). Wade sets out with a small party to rescue his friend, with the Sioux right behind him.

Jed Cooper (Victor Mature), a trapper, enlists as an army fort scout, and shortly after meets and falls for Corinna Marston (Anne Bancroft), the wife of a nearby fort's commander.
