Besides the pieces of broken taillight, they say they found hair on the outside of the defendant's car. The state police seized her Lexus SUV just after John O'Keefe was found in the snow and rushed to the hospital.

Prosecutors went into details about the alleged murder weapon in this case. It wasn't a knife or gun as you see in most Court TV Trials. But, this time an SUV. The State claimed Karen Read Killed John O'Keefe in a hit-and-run incident. Jurors saw photos of the sweatshirt and sneakers belonging to the victim, John O'Keefe. They also saw Pictures of debris that prosecutors said came from the defendant's black Lexus.

A forensic scientist on the stand had more to tell the jury about crime scene evidence. One part of that was the clothing John O'Keefe had been wearing. Maureen Hartnett examined it as thoroughly as the hair and dents found on the outside of the defendant's car. The cross-examination began on Hartnett. She was among the team who examined, collected, and processed crime scene evidence.

Maureen Hartnett, the crime scene analyst working this case, got grilled by Karen Read's defense under cross-examination. Hartnett testified that she did not know when the pieces of glass or the hair got on the defendant's SUV. Her lawyers maintained throughout this trial that she was framed by someone who fatally beat John O'Keefe inside a home and that the homeowner's relationship with local and state police tainted this investigation.

Prosecutors brought in another analyst who did physical matches on crime scene evidence. It included the defendant's SUV as well as clothing belonging to her boyfriend, the victim-John O'Keefe. Jurors learned more about this key crime scene evidence that seemed to implicate Karen Read in the death of O'Keefe, her boyfriend. Prosecutors alleged that their relationship was in so much trouble that she resorted to killing him in a hit-and-run in a middle of a snowstorm.

For prosecutors, the broken taillight pieces served as proof that Karen Read hit her boyfriend with her SUV and then drove off all while under the influence. Days after John O'Keefe died, police had her black Lexus SUV in their custody examining every inch.
