Prosecutors wanted to show that it was possible for the defendant to have used her car to kill her boyfriend, John O'Keefe, in a hit-and-run. On the stand was Sergeant Yuri Bukhenik, the supervisor to the main detective on this case. Later under cross-examination Karen Read's defense had probing questions for this Massachusetts State Police trooper.

The cross-examination had begun on the state police sergeant who assisted in the investigation into the death of John O'Keefe. Karen Read's defense team tried to raise all kinds of red flags about this case and how the 16-year Boston police officer died. Sergeant Yuri Bukhenik recalled that investigators initially thought John O'Keefe was severely beaten before he was found in the snow. But physical evidence and witness statements turned their attention to Karen read as a possible suspect.

Sergeant Yuri Bukhenik was among the main investigators who looked into the death of veteran Boston police officer, John O'Keefe. Karen Read's Defense went into detail about surveillance footage that captured her car being impounded by police. Bukhenik confirmed that he was with Trooper Michael Proctor, lead investigator on the case, when police impounded the defendant's car for more testing.
