A crash reconstruction expert testified for the State. Massachusetts State Trooper Joseph Paul was tasked to analyze the condition of her car during the investigation into the death of John O'Keefe. Jurors would decide later whether his conclusions proved the defendant caused her boyfriend's death. This crime scene reconstruction included a series of images and crime scene photos to help in his analysis of what happened to the victim.

The jury heard about the examination into her SUV. Prosecutors considered this the murder weapon in the death of John O'Keefe. On the stand was a crash reconstruction expert because the State alleged she killed him in a hit and run. State Trooper Joseph Paul told the jury that the Karen Read's car accelerated to over 20 miles-per-hour in the snow right before it allegedly hit her boyfriend.

Jurors learned the ranges of how fast Karen Read's SUV may have been going when prosecutors said it hit John O'Keefe. On the stand was Joseph Paul, a crash reconstructionist, who examined the defendant's car and performed road tests. Jurors listened intently to this expert's testimony. According to Trooper Paul's data, Karen Read's car moved forward slightly, shifted to reverse and accelerated more than 20 miles-per-hour into John O'Keefe.

The crash expert testifying for the State confirmed that he did road tests with a Lexus SUV which is the type of vehicle the defendant had. Prosecutors alleged that Karen read intentionally hit John O'Keefe with her car by making a three-point turn and reversing into him. Photos and video clips of the crash reconstruction were presented to the jury. On the stand was state Trooper Joseph Paul who put together that recreation of what he concluded happened to the victim.

The Defense had more questions during the cross-examination of the State's crash reconstruction expert. He just finished telling jurors that he recreated the alleged hit-and-run that prosecutors believed killed John O'Keefe. Prosecutors hoped Trooper Joseph Paul would convince jurors that the death of John O'Keefe was no accident. He claimed this was a collision between a pedestrian and a car.

Trooper Joseph Paul tried made clear to jurors that the evidence he examined was consistent with a collision involving a pedestrian. He also said that neither the blizzard conditions nor a car malfunction contributed to what happened to John O'Keefe. The Defense heated things up during the cross-examination. According to Trooper Paul, even if the car's mirrors were blocked or its backup camera was defective- an attentive and reasonable driver would not have reversed at a high rate of speed.

The long cross-examination of the State's crash reconstructionist was not over yet. Trooper Joseph Paul said that he was initially told that this was a pedestrian crash involving a Boston police officer and that the vehicle was going in reverse. This was before he began his work to figure out what happened to that officer, John O'Keefe. Next, jurors learned about the inner workings of a car while the State's crash expert was on the stand.

Prosecutors wanted to show how far they believed the former interior designer went to kill her stepfather, Tom Merriman, and dispose of his body. They called to the stand one of the men she was accused of asking to help her. Brian Salomon claimed that Jade Janks wanted to put a pillowcase over her stepfather's head and a rope around his neck. Salomon testified that he ran away from her at one point on the day prosecutors said she killed her stepfather.

The Defense tried to discredit the man who claimed he was asked to help her kill her stepdad, Tom Merriman. On the stand, Brian Salomon admitted that he did not go to police after his encounter with the defendant because he was afraid it would incriminate him. Jurors would decide later what was the actual involvement of the man who Jade Janks allegedly tried to recruit in a murder plot. Was he an accomplice and culprit in Merriman's death?

He told jurors how police did a welfare check to look for him, but they did not find him. It began with claims that Jade Janks was responsible for drugging and suffocating him.

Yazeed Essa's lawyer was in the middle of their closing arguments. With a graphic checklist displayed for jurors, defense attorney Steven Bradley implored the jury not to judge Yazeed's alleged role in his wife, Rosemarie's death, with emotion and disdain for him as a cheating husband. According his defense, Yazeed giving his wife calcium pills was not evidence that he was looking to fatally poison her.

The long closing arguments by the Defense continued. Defense attorney Steven Bradley continued to stress the lack of physical evidence the state needed to link Yazeed to his wife, Rosemarie's death. Yazeed Essa's lawyer played back court testimony during his closing arguments. The Defense wanted jurors to dismiss the testimony of his alleged fixer who testified against him.

Jurors listened to Yazeed Essa's attorney during closing arguments trying to implicate one of his mistresses as the possible killer in Rosemarie's death. Just like they did in their opening statements, the defense team gave a long closing arguments to jurors. They outlined what they believed were holes in the state's case that left enough reasonable doubt for the jury to acquit Yazeed for his alleged role in his wife's death.

Yazeed Essa's attorney wrapped up his long closing arguments to jurors in his murder trial. Steven Bradley stressed the importance of keying on reasonable doubt, which he believed is littered all through the state's case accusing the defendant of killing Rosemarie, his wife of five years. Next, the lead prosecutor, Steven Dever, claimed in their rebuttal argument to jurors that his team began their case as a product tampering one only to tear it down to prove intentional murder.

In the State's closing arguments, Steven Dever, the lead prosecutor, explained why Yazeed all of abandoned his two kids to flee the U.S. as police began looking at him as a murder suspect. This was just a few weeks after his wife, Rosemarie, died. Emotions were high during closing arguments especially among Rosemarie's side of the family. This 6-week trial divided both sides of the family in the Essa marriage. Testimony pointed out to lies, manipulation, betrayal, dishonesty and heartbreak.
