Rugby Super League (often abbreviated as RSL) is a professional rugby league competition based in England that has been in operation since 1996. The league currently consists of 13 teams: Wigan Warriors, St Helens, Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC, Castleford Tigers, Salford Red Devils, Wakefield Trinity, Catalans Dragons, Hull Kingston Rovers, Huddersfield Giants, London Broncos, and Toronto Wolfpack.The Rugby Super League season runs over a period of eight months from March to October. Each team plays a total of 27 matches in a standard round robin format. At the end of the season, the top five teams qualify for the championship playoffs. The playoffs consist of three rounds with the grand final taking place at Old Trafford in Manchester.Throughout its history, the Rugby Super League has featured several outstanding individual players, including Paul Wellens, Johnny Lomax, Kevin Sinfield, and Richard Myler. The following year, the league was reduced from 14 to 12 teams and the regular season was shortened from 29 rounds to 27. The regular season also underwent major changes in 2015 when the Super 8s format replaced the traditional two-legged semi-finals.The Rugby Super League is one of the most competitive and watched sports competitions in England, with an annual attendance of 6 million people in 2019.
