NHRA Drag RacingNHRA Drag Racing is one of the most popular forms of motorsport in the world. Team members race down a drag strip in specially designed cars, reaching speeds exceeding 330 mph in less than four seconds. The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) is the governing body of the sport, hosting drag racing events across the United States and Canada, including the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, four professional classes, and six different divisions. Each class consists of specific categories such as fuel, nitro-burning, supercharged, hot rod, Stock, Super Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycles. The Mello Yello Drag Racing Series is the premier professional racing class. It includes 24 events on the 16-race national tour where competitors vie for the coveted championship. The season kicks off in February with the Winternationals at Pomona Raceway and culminates with the Auto Club Finals in November. In between each event, racers participate in various qualifying sessions to determine who gets to compete in the elimination rounds of competition. The Top Fuel Dragster is one of the most popular classes. Its cars can go from 0 to 330 mph in just 3.7 seconds, making it the fastest drag racing class. Popular Top Fuel teams include Joe Amato, John Force Racing, Tony Schumacher, and Clay Millican. Some of the most popular current racers include Leah Pritchett, Doug Kalitta, J.R. Todd, and Steve Torrence. In addition, Erica Enders-Stevens and Antron Brown have both earned Top Fuel titles in the past. In the other classes, the Pro Stock series features a V8cars, while the Pro Stock Motorcycle class pits two-wheeled dragsters against each other in an eight-bike shoot-out. Both classes feature some of the most successful racers, with drivers such as Greg Anderson, Jeg Coughlin Jr., Andrew Hines, Allen Johnson, and Eddie Krawiec among the most popular. At the end of the season, the top 10 drivers in each category qualify for the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Countdown to the Championship Playoffs, with the champions crowned at the Auto Club Finals. With over 60 years of professional drag racing history under its belt, the NHRA is one of the oldest and most popular forms of motorsport in the US and Canada.
