In the 1980s, geeky Adam uses a video camera to document his family's crazy life. His mother, Beverly, is overprotective and lacks boundaries, while his dad has a hot temper and finds it difficult to parent without screaming. Rounding out the clan are Adam's terrifying sister, Erica; his older brother, Barry, who has middle-child syndrome; and the family's beloved grandfather, Al "Pops" Solomon. Pops is responsible for wild antics, including offering drinks to Barry and teaching Adam about the ways of love -- which create more chaos in an already high-strung family.

Adam and Murray don't want to go on a camping trip, so father and son create a film faking it; Erica joins an all-girl a cappella group and learns an important lesson after taking over the group.

Adam and Jackie disagree over their Halloween costumes; Murray teaches Adam how to keep Jackie happy.

Geoff's terror over Beverly controlling all baby-care duties turns into a jump-scare-filled comedic thriller; Adam is excited to spend Halloween visiting Dave Kim at NYU, but his feelings change when he discovers his friend has reinvented himself.

Adam's graduation day is approaching and everyone is ready -- except for Beverly, who is not coping well with the idea of an empty nest; with Geoff's encouragement, Erica decides to try out for Cyndi Lauper as a one-time backup singer replacement.
