Former scientist Sam Beckett finds himself trapped in time due to an experiment gone awry, leaping into the body of a different person each week. Al Calavicci, at first known only as The Observer, is Sam's holographic adviser -- he provides Sam with some details about his new identity and gives him guidance on how to help the people affected by his presence. But with little memory to help guide him, our hero is forced to bluff his way through many a wacky situation.

An acrophobic Sam becomes a 1958 trapeze artist (guest star Fabiana Udenio) preparing for a death-defying stunt.

Sam is a burly nightclub bouncer who is helping a stripper (guest star Julie Brown) rescue an infant from its abusive father (guest star Charles Frank).

As a Beverly Hills hairstylist in 1983, Sam must save his girlfriend's son (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who witnessed a pharmacist's murder next door.

Sam experiences the anguishing aftermath of rape after he leaps into the life of the victim, and it intensifies when he takes the accused rapist to court.
