Comedian and stage actress Carol Burnett, who first gained popularity during her stint on "The Gary Moore Show," hosted this one-hour variety series. Her talented supporting players included Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence (who got the job based on her resemblance to Burnett) and Lyle Waggoner. Skits often featured guest stars, such as Mama Cass of the Mamas and the Papas or singer Steve Lawrence. One sketch, "The Family" (which featured Lawrence as the persnickety Mama and Burnett as her hotheaded daughter) was later spun-off into it's own sitcom.

Guest stars Rich Little and Eydie Gorme join in a tribute to Alfred Hitchcock; Carol and Harvey play a couple who are not speaking to each other in a largely pantomimed sketch.

Guest stars David Hartman and Paula Kelly; characters include washed up actress Nora Desmond and the long-suffering couple George and Zelda; also featuring "This Is Your Lifetime."

Mama drops in on a newly divorced Eunice in "The Family"; Mr. Tudball offers to pay for the funeral of Mrs. Wiggins' deceased canary and then regrets it; guest Nancy Dussault.

Kaye Ballard and Steve Lawrence stop by for another round of laughter and fun; the WWII movie spoof "Operation Minestrone", and the continuing saga of "As the Stomach Turns."
