This sitcom chronicles the misadventures of teenager Chris as he grows up in 1980s Brooklyn. Chris is surrounded by eccentric family members, including frugal father Julius, intimidating mother Rochelle, spoiled sister Tonya and younger brother Drew, who is more popular than Chris. The show is based on the life of comedian Chris Rock, who serves as the narrator for the show and is also an executive producer.

Chris is robbed by a notorious repeat offender, Malvo (Ricky Harris), when Doc entrusts him with watching the cash register.

Chris' new principal (guest star Jason Alexander) pairs him with Caruso as buddies on the school field trip.

Coach Thurman suggests that Chris learn to box so he can defend himself; Julius suspects that Rochelle is having an affair.

Chris reluctantly agrees to hold onto a stash of marijuana but has a difficult time finding an appropriate place to hide it; Rochelle has to learn the beauty salon's new computer system.
