Jurors learned of key evidence that investigators uncovered in their investigation into what happened to John O'Keefe. Besides the pieces of broken taillight, they say they found hair on the outside of the defendant's car. The state police seized her Lexus SUV just after John O'Keefe was found in the snow and rushed to the hospital.

The State claimed Karen Read Killed John O'Keefe in a hit-and-run incident. Jurors saw photos of the sweatshirt and sneakers belonging to the victim, John O'Keefe. They also saw Pictures of debris that prosecutors said came from the defendant's black Lexus.
S1, EP109 "Crime Scene Analyst Explains"
A forensic scientist on the stand had more to tell the jury about crime scene evidence. One part of that was the clothing John O'Keefe had been wearing. Maureen Hartnett examined it as thoroughly as the hair and dents found on the outside of the defendant's car. The cross-examination began on Hartnett. She was among the team who examined, collected, and processed crime scene evidence.
S1, EP110 "Explaining The Glass, Plastic, And Hair Found"
Maureen Hartnett, the crime scene analyst working this case, got grilled by Karen Read's defense under cross-examination. Hartnett testified that she did not know when the pieces of glass or the hair got on the defendant's SUV. Her lawyers maintained throughout this trial that she was framed by someone who fatally beat John O'Keefe inside a home and that the homeowner's relationship with local and state police tainted this investigation.

The Defense had more questions for the state police Lieutenant on the stand. The goal was to poke holes in the investigation into the death of John O'Keefe. According to Read's attorneys, investigators intentionally mishandled this case to frame her. Lieutenant Kevin O'Hara testified that he was unaware the crime scene was left unattended for hours before he began his search.

Jurors saw crime scene photos during the State's case against her. Massachusetts State Police claimed when they searched the snowy area where John O'Keefe was found, they came across damaged pieces of a car taillight and John's Nike sneaker. Later, the cross-examination began on Lieutenant Kevin O'Hara. He was assigned to scour the crime scene for evidence in the area where John O'Keefe was found all during blizzard conditions.

Jurors listened to more detailed testimony from a lieutenant in the Massachusetts State Police who was responsible for a unit that does evidence searches. His team was assigned to examine the snowbank area where John O'Keefe was found. The Defense conceded that the taillight on Karen Read's SUV was broken at some point. But her lawyers argued that it did not break because she hit O'Keefe. Instead, police planted red and clear plastic at the scene outside the Albert home to frame Read.
S1, EP103 "City Employees Testify"
A city worker who was in charge of scheduling snow plowing in Canton, Massachusetts took the stand. Police wanted to examine the area where John O'Keefe was found unresponsive in a snowbank. Next on the stand was Louis Jutras, the manager of information systems for the town of Canton. Jutras discussed surveillance footage he provided to state police during the course of the investigation.
