It's really almost this simple for Ohio State. Play the next two games and they're not only in the BIG10 Championship but also likely a lock for the College Football Playoff. If they miss this game or the next against Michigan, they may very well be out of the conversation all together. Sure they have to win both games to make it, but they will be heavily favored in each.
The problem for Ohio State is that they've already had two games canceled due to COVID-19. One against Maryland on Nov. 14 and just last week against Illinois. They have to play six games to qualify for any postseason berth. This game is in jeopardy of being cancelled as well because of the number of confirmed cases on the Buckeyes side. That includes head coach Ryan Day who will miss this game because he has tested positive for the virus. Defensive line coach Larry Johnson is set to fill in for Day. Regardless of who is on the sideline, they should come away with a "W" against the Spartans.

All eyes will be on Justin Fields in this one. He hasn't played since Nov. 21 against Indiana where the Hoosiers made the game close in part to Fields' three interceptions. Before the game he didn't have any interceptions. In fact, he had as many touchdowns as he did incompletions at 11. After this one bad performance, many are taking him out of the Heisman conversation. This seems premature and with a stellar game, he is right back in the mix. He is one of the best QBs in the game and will likely be the number two pick after Trevor Lawrence in next year's draft. He is averaging the most yards in college football at 302 ypg and is completing 80 percent of his passes. If he can avoid turnovers in this one, the Buckeyes will cruise.
To do that, Fields will have to look out for safety Shakur Brown who is leading the conference with five picks. The Spartans will put up Rocky Lombardi at quarterback. Don't know about you but that's one of the most epic names of all time. It's a lot to live up to in the sports world and Lombardi's numbers are more pedestrian than his name suggests. He has eight touchdowns compared to eight interceptions. He has just over 1,000 passing yards on the year in five games. Fields has 1,200 in four games.
These two teams' defenses are pretty comparable but their offenses are where you start to see the disparities. Ohio State is averaging more than 200 more yards per game than the Spartans. The Spartans will have to win considerably in the turnover column to stay in this one. Michigan State's two wins were upsets against #13 Michigan and #8 Northwestern. Do they have another upset in them?
