Georgia Tech (18-11) and Pitt (13-14) split the first two games of their three-game weekend Atlantic Coast Conference series, with the decisive game set for Sunday afternoon at Charles Cost Field in Pittsburgh. The Yellow Jackets are sixth in the ACC Coastal Division at 4-7, followed by the 3-11 Panthers. Georgia Tech’s run of three straight NCAA tournament bids ended last year, with the program’s third and most recent College World Series trip coming in 2006. Pitt has played in just three NCAA tournaments in the program’s history, most recently in 1995. Yellow Jackets coach Danny Hall is in his 31st season at the school, where he has 1,188 wins with the program that was once coached by John Heisman (yes, the Heisman for whom the football trophy was named).

Jayden Melendez belted a ground-rule double to right field to chase home pinch-runner Austyn Winkleblech as the Panthers walked off in the ninth inning with a 3-2 win on Saturday. Luke Cantwell had a solo homer in the fifth to give Pitt a 2-1 lead. Jake Kendro slashes .324/.432/.514 while Melendez leads the team with eight homers and Justin Fogel owns a team-best 22 RBI.
Carson Kerce tied the game for Georgia Tech with an RBI single in the sixth after Matthew Ellis gave it a 1-0 lead with a run-scoring base hit in the top of the first. Drew Burress paces the team with a .373/.493/.873 slash line, 15 home runs and 40 RBI.
Left-hander Ryan Reed takes the ball for the series finale. In seven appearances and six starts for the Panthers, he is 0-3 with a 7.57 ERA and 1.94 WHIP. Right-hander Tate McKee prepares for his second start and ninth appearance for the Yellow Jackets, coming in with a 4.67 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 17.1 innings to go with 21 strikeouts.
