Finland and Austria return on Thursday from an off day for a Group A matchup as the standings already begin to take shape.
Finland (2-0-1, 7 points) returns to the ice at Prague Arena in Czechia on Thursday after an off day to take on Austria (0-2-1, 1 point). The Finns come off a victory on Tuesday over Norway and hold fourth place in the Group A standings, four points clear of Norway and Denmark for the final spot in the knockout stage. The Austrians come off taking a shocking point from Canada on Tuesday after erasing a five-goal deficit in the third period to force overtime. Austria stands one point better than winless Great Britain in seventh place in Group A play.

Finland tripled up Norway, outshooting the Norwegians 42-14 en route to a 4-1 victory on Tuesday. Oliver Kapanen from Finland’s KalPa Kuopio club and Arttu Hyry of Oulun Kärpät scored two goals each in the win while Harri Säteri of Swiss side EHC Biel made 13 saves.
Peter Schneider of Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg scored two of the Austrians’ five third period goals and Marco Rossi of the Minnesota Wild lit the lamp with 49 seconds left in regulation to force a 6-6 tie before Canada won early in overtime. Schneider finished with three points, as did Dominic Zwerger of Austrian club HC Ambri-Piotta with a goal and two helpers.
Kapanen leads Finland with five goals and five points and Säteri owns a .976 save percentage and 0.48 goals against average in two games. Schneider, Lukas Haudum of Austrian side EC KAC and Benjamin Baumgartner of SC Bern in Switzerland each have two goals and Zwerger leads the club with four points on a goal and three assists.
