The 2024 BWF Thomas and Uber Cup gets started today with the best in international badminton action. This year’s tournament is being played in Chengdu, China at the Chengdu High-tech Zone Sports Center Gymnasium and features 32 total teams looking to come away as the best in the world of Badminton. The Thomas Cup features 16 of those teams while the Uber Cup features the other 16 teams in the tournament. This tournament is played every two years with this year’s event marking the 40th year anniversary of the two cups coming together and the 20th playing overall since then.

Last year India won the Thomas Cup for the first time ever with a 3-0 win over Indonesia while South Korea won the Uber Cup for the second time with a 3-2 win over China. Both India and South Korea are in the field again this year along with China and Indonesia looking to get back to the championship match.

The teams are broken up into four groups with Australia, Canada, China and South Korea (Group A), Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, Germany and Japan (Group B), England, India, Indonesia and Thailand (Group C) and Algeria, Denmark, Hong Kong and Malaysia (Group D) making up the teams in the Thomas Cup.

For the Uber Cup, Group A features Canada, China, India and Singapore, Group B showcases Australia, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia and Thailand, Group C has Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan and Uganda with Group D giving Denmark, Mexico, South Korea and the United States a chance to advance to the knockout stage.
