Unbeaten squads collide on the final day of Group A play at the IIHF U-18 World Championships as Finland meets the United States
Host Finland (3-0-0, 9 points) proved to be an impenetrable force thus far at the IIHF U-18 World Championships, surrendering just one goal this far. On Tuesday at Metro Arena in Espoo, the Finns collide with the United States (3-0-0, 9 points), a team scoring at will in the tournament with 24 goals through three games. The winner claims the top spot in Group A while the loser enters the knockout stage as the group’s No. 2 seed. American forward James Hagens leads the tournament with 10 points, including four goals, through three games whole sniper Cole Eiserman has a tournament-best six goals so far. Finnish goalies Petteri Rimpinen and Kim Saarinen have stopped 34 of 35 shots they’ve faced.

The U.S. rolled past Latvia 7-1 on Sunday behind two goals from Trevor Connelly and a 24-save performance in net by Caleb Heil. The Americans scored the first five goals of the game before Latvia got on the board with 1:07 remaining in the second period. Connelly finished with four points, adding two assists in the victory.
Rimpinen faced just eight shots while posting a 4-0 shutout over Slovakia on Sunday. Finland scored all of its goals in the first period. Emil Hemming got the first at the 6:27 mark while Joona Saarelainen added a goal and an assist. Konsta Helenius leads Finland with six points, all assists, and Hemming paces the team with four goals.
The United States won its record 11th goal medla last year in Switzerland and has 19 medals at the world championships overall. Finland last medaled in 2022 and has won four golds, most recently in 2018.
