Lithuania lead Gibraltar 1-0 on aggregate heading into the deciding leg of their UEFA Nations League relegation play-out
It’s must-win time for Lithuania and Gibraltar on Tuesday as the two teams scrum down once more for a fixture that will decide who is relegated to the bottom rung on the UEFA Nations League ladder. Both Lithuania and Gibraltar managed to muster just a single point in UEFA Nations League C during the 2022-23 competition and so qualified for the relegation play-out. And all Lithuania needs to do is draw (or better) on home soil to ensure they remain a part of League C after Armandas Kucys secured a 1-0 away win in Thursday’s opening leg on the Algarve.

Edgaras Jankauskas’ side return to Darius and Girenas Stadium in Kaunas this week with a spring in their steps having found the all-important first goal in last week’s opening salvo.
The former Porto, Real Sociedad and New England Revolution frontman led his side to a first-leg victory that significantly simplifies this week’s objective—avoid defeat at all costs:
It’s just as well for Lithuania that Gibraltar is currently on an 11-loss streak, which includes a particularly harrowing 14-0 defeat a the hands of France back in November.
Almost four years have passed since Julio Cesar Ribas’ side last won a competitive fixture, having defeated Liechtenstein 1-0 in one of the earlier editions of the Nations League.
Failing to replicate that result in Lithuania this week will result in Los Llanis dropping back down to UEFA Nations League D at the first attempt, having only been promoted from that tier in 2021.
Gibraltar hasn’t managed to score even once during its current 11-loss streak, which equates to more than 1,000 minutes without finding the back of the net.
That being said, while Lithuania held firm on foreign soil, there’s hope for Tuesday’s guests considering the host hasn’t kept a clean sheet in its last four home outings.
