Reliever Sean Reid-Foley got in his first major-league spring action on Sunday after working in a minor-league game last week as he works back from an arm injury. The Yankees expect first baseman Anthony Rizzo to be ready for Opening Day on Thursday as he deals with lat tightness. Third baseman DJ LeMahieu is considered a long shot to be ready on Thursday with a foot injury.

Right-hander Marcus Stroman worked six shutout innings on Sunday and Jahmai Jones’ RBI double in the fourth inning was all the support he needed as the Yankees beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 1-0. Stroman was signed as a free agent in January after pitching the last two seasons with the Chicago Cubs.
The Mets went split squad on Sunday, with one group beating the Washington Nationals 10-1 and the other dropping a 5-1 decision to the Miami Marlins. Right-hander Luis Severino allowed a run in five innings against Washington while Brandon Nimmo, Tyrone Taylor and Stanley Consuegra drove in two runs each.
Right-hander Clarke Schmidt starts for the Yankees on Monday. He has a 4.50 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 12 innings this spring. Left-hander Sean Manaea gets the ball for the Mets, entering play with a 3.09 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over 11.2 innings with 14 strikeouts.
