Montreal (12-5-5, 38 points) booked its tickets to the inaugural Professional Women’s Hockey League playoffs with a victory on Wednesday. Tied with Toronto for first place with two games left on its schedule, Montreal visits TD Place on Saturday to take on Ottawa (9-6-6, 32 points). Ottawa picked up two points with a shootout win over Boston on Wednesday, increasing its lead over Boston for the final playoff spot to three points. Saturday marks Ottawa’s home finale before finishing its schedule at New York and Toronto next week. Montreal plays its final game of the season at Boston next week.

Montreal rode a three-goal second period to a 5-2 victory over visiting New York on Wednesday to clinch a playoff berth and eliminate New York in the process. Montreal took a 1-0 lead in the first on Catherine Daoust’s first goal of the season while Ann-Renée Desbiens stopped 31 shots.
Gabbie Hughes netted the equalizer for Ottawa at 11:14 of the third period and Kateřina Mrázová scored twice in the shootout to secure its important 3-2 victory over Boston on Wednesday. Brianne Jenner scored the first goal for Ottawa, running her streak of consecutive games lighting the lamp to four.
With an assist on Wednesday, Marie-Philip Poulin of Montreal took over the PWHL scoring lead with 22 points and is tied for third with nine goals. Jenner, with six goals and nine points during her streak, rocketed to fourth in the scoring race and also has nine goals.
