At 47-36, the Padres are currently six games back of the Dodgers in the division. They now hold the second Wild Card spot, two games behind the Braves and three and a half up on the Phillies and Cardinals, who are tied for the final spot.

The Giants aren’t far behind at 41-39. They sit a game out of a Wild Card spot, with this weekend providing a solid opportunity to regain some ground.

This will be the third series between the Giants and Padres this year. In the first meetings in mid-April in San Francisco, the Giants took two of three games, holding the Padres to just five total runs.

When they met again in mid-May, the Padres’ pitching staff dominated, earning wins of 2-1 and 10-1 on their way to a three-game sweep. The only high-scoring game in that series was an 8-7 10-inning win in the series opener.

Regional restrictions may apply.
