On Sunday night, eighth-seeded Alabama will take on top-seeded Texas as the teams meet at the Moody Center in Texas for the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Crimson Tide made it through to the round of 32 with an 82-74 win over Florida State on Friday to bring their overall record to 24-9. Essence Cody led the Tide’s offense with 20 points while Aaliyah Nye and Karly Weathers finished right behind her, turning in 18 points each in the win. Cody also led the team on the boards with 14 rebounds for a double-double in the first round victory. The team finished the game shooting 50.8% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc.

The Longhorns are now 31-5 overall and bring a five game win streak into Sunday’s game after making quick work of Drexel in the first round of play with an 82-42 win. Shaylee Gonzales was the leading scorer on both sides with 21 points, but four other Longhorns finished in double digits, as well. DeYona Gaston finished the game with a double-double, leading Texas on the boards with 10 rebounds and scoring 11 points off the bench. The Longhorns finished the game shooting 43.7% from the field and 50% from three-point range.
Alabama and Texas have only met twice in program history with the most recent game dating back to 1984. Texas earned an 85-53 win in that game to bring the all-time series record to 2-0 in the Longhorns’ favor.
