Must-Start Fantasy Football Players in the First Week of Playoffs

The first round of fantasy football playoffs is here and every decision is paramount. Do not bench these five players under any circumstances.

The playoffs are finally here! All the hard work, hours of studying, and immense luck has gotten you to the point of your season being win-or-go-home. Bragging rights with your friends, money, and trophies are only the line and even the slightest mess up in a player you start could mean the end of your season in a flaming dumpster fire. Don’t mistake these players for players that you should be thinking about benching because these are your top five must-start players to move you on to the next round.

Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys

Dak Prescott should be considered the MVP-frontrunner in the NFL for his performances over the last seven weeks of the season. He has finished as a top-five quarterback five of those seven weeks and hasn’t gone under 20 points in any of those weeks in that stretch. He has had five games over 34 points and a total of 22 touchdowns with two interceptions since his bye week. This Buffalo defense that he will be matched up against will not be the hardest of that stretch, though they are not an easy defense either. Prescott could be the saving grace of your week.

Tyreek Hill, WR, Miami Dolphins

Many people saw Tyreek Hill go down with an injury in the first half of the Monday Night Football matchup with the Tennessee Titans. After sitting a significant amount of time, Hill came back in the second half and finished with just four receptions for 61 yards totaling 10.10 points, by far his lowest of the season. He has been hit with the questionable tag to start the week. If he is active, he should be in your lineup regardless of anything else you might hear. Even hobbled, he has the opportunity to get 10/100/1 which is a 26-point game.

DK Metcalf, WR, Seattle Seahawks

Early in the season, the case could have been easily made to sit DK Metcalf. He had six straight weeks to start the season where he failed to surpass the WR15 on the given week. His high in that stretch was 17.20 points. However, in his last five weeks, he has surpassed WR15 three times and was even the WR1 two weeks ago. The playoffs is all about who gets hot at the right time and in his last two games, Metcalf has totaled eight receptions for 186 yards and four touchdowns. He will get an Eagles’ defense that was beaten up by the Cowboys last week.

Brock Purdy, QB, San Francisco 49ers

Brock Purdy’s schedule has eased up, and this week, he gets arguably the worst defense he has played all season. In the last four weeks, Purdy has been higher than WR6 in all but one of them and he was QB2 twice. On the season, he is the fifth-best quarterback and the ninth-best overall player. In that last two weeks combined, Purdy has thrown for 682 yards and six touchdowns with one interception. He is also my third-ranked QB this week.

Trey McBride, TE, Arizona Cardinals

Trey McBride has exploded out of his shell. So much so that the Cardinals just elected to release Zach Ertz upon his arrival back from injured reserve. There was also hesitancy that the switch from Josh Dobbs to Kyler Murray would hinder McBride’s performance, but it just boosted it. He was on a bye last week, but the two weeks before that, he was the TE7 and the TE3. He totaled 15 receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown. In the last four weeks he played, he has gone over 13 points in three of the four games.
