Tomás Avilés put Gerardo Martino’s men up 1-0 in the 19th minute, putting Miami up by one goal through halftime. 20-year-old midfielder David Ruiz then received his second yellow card in the 65th minute, leaving the club with 10 men for the final half hour. It only took four minutes, however, for Maxi Meza to level the score at one apiece. Finally, Jorge Rodríguez scored in the 89th minute of the match to take the 2-1 lead into the second leg.
