Players to watch in 2026-27

Paolo Banchero is the franchise cornerstone and a 2024 All-Star who averaged 22.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game last season. The 23-year-old forward combines elite scoring ability with improved playmaking and is the engine of everything Orlando does on offense. Under Sweeney's system, Banchero is expected to take another leap.

Franz Wagner has developed into one of the most versatile two-way forwards in the league, capable of guarding multiple positions while creating offense as a secondary playmaker. Wagner's combination of size, skill, and basketball IQ makes him the ideal complement to Banchero.

Desmond Bane was acquired from Memphis in a blockbuster trade that sent Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, and four first-round picks to the Grizzlies. Bane brings proven shooting — 40.4% from three over the past five seasons — and 20-point scoring punch to a Magic team that needed perimeter firepower. His arrival gives Orlando a legitimate Big Three.

Jalen Suggs rounds out the starting five as the team's defensive catalyst at point guard. Suggs' tenacious on-ball defense and improved shooting make him the ideal backcourt partner alongside Bane.

Nikola Vucevic returned to Orlando on a one-year deal after stints with the Bulls and Celtics, turning down more lucrative offers to reunite with the franchise where he earned two All-Star selections (2012-2021). Vucevic provides veteran scoring, floor spacing, and a locker room presence for the young core.

The Orlando Magic this week on Fubo

Orlando dropped a preseason road game to Cleveland, falling 119-105 to move to 1-1 on the young exhibition slate. The Cavaliers controlled the margin throughout, pulling away for a 14-point final cushion at home. The Magic showed enough fight to stay competitive into the fourth quarter, but Cleveland's home floor proved too much to overcome in this early October tuneup.

Next game: vs Cleveland Cavaliers — Tue Oct 13, 7:00 PM ET on NBCSN, live on Fubo.

Sitting at 1-1 in preseason play, the Magic return to Kia Center to host Cleveland in a quick rematch. After dropping the road meeting by 14, Orlando gets a chance to flip the result on home hardwood before the regular season opens. The Cavaliers have already shown they can pull away late, which makes this a genuine test of how the Magic respond when the pressure is on. Catch it on Fubo.
