Sue Wyche testified that at one point Susan moved out of her home with her allegedly abusive husband, Jeff, and then moved in with her parents. The reason - the constant physical, mental, and emotional abuse.

On the stand, she admitted that her daughter lied to friends and family after she killed, Jeff, her husband but told the truth when she confessed to her parents and law enforcement. Sue Wyche claimed her daughter was afraid to divorce her husband. After Wyche wrapped up her testimony to jurors the defendant took the stand in her own defense.

After she killed her husband, Jeff, Susan was admitted to a mental health facility where she divulged to the social worker how she was physically and mentally abused in her marriage. These jurors learned more about the mental health evaluation Wright underwent. Her defense wanted to present Wright as innocent housewife and stay-at-home mom of two who was abused and tormented by her husband.

This was different that the Defense's view where Jeff was this habitual drug abuser who was violent to his wife.

They gave a different viewpoint on the couple's marriage in the lead up to the fatal stabbing at home. Next, one of the defendant's close friends and next-door neighbor took the stand. Specific questions of domestic violence was asked. This was the Defense's claim of why Susan killed her husband in a fatal knife attack.
