Burn Pile Murder Trial

S1, EP34 "Pointing The Finger At The Son"

The reality of the broken marriage between Gary and Melody Farris was explained further for jurors. The couples' youngest son happened to be a 35-year-old farmhand who lived and worked on the 10-acre property. Despite the Defense's hints of Scott Farris in being the real killer in this case, prosecutors argued instead that he had no motive to kill his father. One, he was completely reliant on him financially and two, he emotionally testified through tears that he loved his father.

S1, EP36 "Denying Any And All Involvement"

Melody Farris' defense team wasn't letting Scott Off the Hook. Her lawyer argued that with his height and Weight only he could've shot and killed his dad, Gary, and dragged his 300-pound body to a burn pile to have his remains charred. Scott denied having any role in killing his father and disposing his body. He admitted to the jury that he fully understood why investigators deemed him as a suspect in the homicide.

S1, EP37 "Youngest Daughter Speaks"

A close friend of the defendant's son took that stand. He happened to be with Scott Farris earlier that morning when Gary Farris was found dead with his human remains charred in a burn pile on the family property. Next, the youngest child of Gary and Melody Farris testified. Jurors already heard extensive testimony from two of the couple's adult sons.

According to prosecutors in their opening statements, money was the motive for this murder. Next, Melody Farris' defense delivered their opening remarks to the jury. They claimed police acted on confirmation bias when they allegedly narrowed erroneously on the defendant for the death of her husband, Gary. A complicated family coupled with a complicated police investigation all led to fingers pointing at Melody Farris for first-degree murder.
