Four mature women live together in Miami and experience the joys and angst of their golden years; strong-willed Dorothy, spacey Rose, lusty Southern belle Blanche and matriarch Sophia, Dorothy's mom, occasionally clash but are there for one another in the end; after all, when the show's theme song is titled "Thank You for Being a Friend," the ladies have to remain friendly with one another.
After she sees Dorothy and Miles' spur-of-the-moment kiss, Sophia must tell this to Rose; the last thing she needs to do to break the curse is tell a friend of a betrayal.
Sophia becomes a doting mother when Dorothy accepts a lucrative corporate teaching job.
Rose gives the boot to penny-pinching Miles; Blanche loses track of Sophia while Dorothy is vacationing.
While choking, Sophia has an out-of-body experience; Blanche protests the demolition of the family's plantation.
