Missouri Valley Conference play continues Friday afternoon with a game between Evansville and Indiana.
On Friday night, Evansville will hit the road to take on No. 14 Indiana State in the first game of the teams’ Missouri Valley Conference series as regular season play is just a week from concluding. The Purple Aces are currently in third place in the MVC standings with a conference record of 14-7 and an overall record of 28-20. The team is on a two-game win streak with the most recent being a 10-0 shutout over the University of Southern Indiana in seven innings on Tuesday. Kevin Reed pitched five innings and only gave up three hits and struck out three batters to earn the win for the Purple Aces. At the plate, Kip Fougerousse and Ty Rumsey each brought in three runs to lead the offense, Fougerousse hitting two home runs to plate runs in the win.

The Sycamores bring a three-game win streak into Friday’s series opener with their last time out resulting in a 6-4 win over Belmont to bring their overall record to 34-10 and their conference record to 17-4 to top the MVC leaderboard. Against the Bruins, the Sycamores were forced to play from behind as Luke Hayden gave up home runs in the first and second. In the bottom of the second, Indiana State brought in three runs to take the lead, but Belmost countered with another two runs in the third. Three more runs came through to conclude the game and secure the win. Offensively, Randal Diaz and Mike Sears each had two RBI while Simon Gregersen earned the win on the mound with 2.2 innings of work in which he struck out one batter.
This weekend’s series will be a rematch of the 2023 MVC Tournament final which went in the favor of Indiana State with a 6-0 win. The Sycamores lead the all-time series against the Purple Aces 115-71.
