Coming into the weekend, the Sun Devils are 13-14 in conference play and that has them No. 6 in a conference where the top eight teams make the playoffs. However, Washington, California, and Utah are all within three games, leaving things down to the final weekend.
Arizona State has been one of the best offensive teams in the Pac-12 this year. The Sun Devils are hitting .298 as a team, ranking No. 2 in the conference. Their 61 team home runs are tied for No. 3.
When it comes to their pitching staff, the Sun Devils’ strong point is on the back end. Sophomore righty Brock Peery has made 30 appearances as the team’s closer and is tied for the conference lead with nine saves.
On the other side, Washington State comes into this game riding high off a win. The Cougars shut out the Portland Pilots in a 3-0 win on Tuesday. Dakota Hawkins, Cam Liss, Chase Grillo, and Caden Kaelber combined to allow just two hits over the seven innings while totaling 14 strikeouts.
