The NCAA softball tournament will kick off today with a matchup between Saint Mary’s and the No. 6 ranked team in the nation, Stanford, at the Stanford Regional in California on Friday night. Each regional is a double-elimination tournament with a chance to advance to the Super Regionals in the next round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinal finished the season 43-13 overall and 17-7 against teams in the Pac-12 Conference. They are also 8-4 at a neutral site. They lost the conference title on Friday last week against Utah losing 2-1 after beating California 4-2 in the first round. Aly Kaneshiro is the best bat on the team as the catcher. She is batting .267 with a .345 on-base percentage. She has 10 home runs and 34 RBIs to lead the team with 47 hits in 176 at-bats. NiJaree Canady has been the best pitcher with a 17-4 record and a 0.54 ERA. She has 256 strikeouts and just 13 earned runs given up in 168.2 innings.

They split a four-game series against Loyola Marymount in the team’s last series winning the first and last game while losing both in the middle. That came after a four-game sweep of San Diego in the series before.
