Top Teams With The Most Super Bowl Wins

Here is a list of the Top 10 organizations with the most Super Bowl wins:

T-7 Los Angeles Raiders (3)

1976 (XI), 32-14 vs. Minnesota Vikings

1980 (XV), 27-10 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

1983 (XVIII), 38-9 vs. Washington Redskins

The Raiders reigned supreme in the NFL for the first time in 1977. That team was led by one of the best head coaches ever in John Madden. Wide receiver Fred Biletnikoff won Super Bowl MVP by catching passes from Ken Stabler. The team also had a stellar offensive line of Gene Upshaw and Art Shell.

Their latest Super Bowl success would happen in 1984. While John Madden was no longer leading the team, Tom Flores took over the helm. Those teams had unstoppable defensive ends in Howie Long and Greg Townsend, who would combine for 23.5 sacks during that season.

T-7 Washington Commanders (3)

1982 (XVII), 27-17 vs. Miami Dolphins

1987 (XXII), 42-10 vs. Denver Broncos

1991 (XXVI), 37-21 vs. Buffalo Bills

The common thread between all of the Super Bowl-winning teams was head coach Joe Gibbs. He still has the most wins of any coach in Washington history. Each team was versatile in its own way. Each of those teams was led by different quarterbacks: Joe Theismann, Doug Williams, and Mark Rypien. Other notable players included running back John Riggins, cornerback Darrell Green, and wide receiver Art Monk.

T-7 Denver Broncos (3)

1997 (XXXII), 31-24 vs. Green Bay Packers

1998 (XXXII), 34-19 vs. Atlanta Falcons

2015 (50), 24-10 vs. Carolina Panthers

The Denver Broncos won back-to-back championships in 1998 and 1999. Those teams were absolutely loaded with Hall of Fame talent including quarterback John Elway, running back Terrell Davis, wide receiver Ed McCaffrey, and tight end Shannon Sharpe. It showed how much a potent offensive can affect a game, even in the Super Bowl.

In 2016, the Broncos reached the mountain top one more time against the Carolina Panthers. This time around it was all about the Broncos defense, which was led by linebacker Von Miller, who won MVP of Super Bowl 50. Peyton Manning also won his second Super Bowl.

T-7 Kansas City Chiefs (3)

1969 (IV), 23-7 vs. Minnesota Vikings

2019 (LIV), 31-20 vs. San Francisco 49ers

2022 (LVII), 38-35 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

A 50-year gap for a historic organization is quite a lot, but one thing that was the same for all championships: dominant quarterback play. The Chiefs would go on to dominate the Vikings, with quarterback Len Dawson taking home MVP honors in the first Super Bowl win. The 2019 and 2022 championships had plenty to do with stellar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

In the last two Super Bowl wins Mahomes brought the teams back from halftime deficits. Mahomes led a furious fourth-quarter comeback against Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers, in 2019, scoring 21 unanswered points. In 2022 he helped the team outscore the Eagles 24-11 in the second half.

T-5 New York Giants (4)

1986 (XXI), 39-20 vs. Denver Broncos

1990 (XXV),20-19 vs. Buffalo Bills

2007 (XLII), 17-14 vs. New England Patriots

2011 (XLVI), 21-17 vs. New England Patriots

The Giants’ first Super Bowl win came in 1987 in a victory over the Denver Broncos. The team was led by Hall of Fame head coach Bill Parcells and quarterback Phill Simms, who won the MVP award. In 1990 the team was led by linebacker Lawrence Taylor and Simms. The last two Super Bowl wins have been especially interesting. The first came against a Patriots team that up to that point was undefeated. The Giants were once again underdogs against the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady the second time around. In both games, Eli Manning was named Super Bowl MVP.

T-5 Green Bay Packers (4)

1966 (I), 35-10 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

1967 (II), 33-14 vs. Oakland Raiders

1996 (XXXI),35-21 vs. New England Patriots

2010 (XLV), 31-25 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Packers are one of the most storied franchises in the NFL. One of those reasons is because of the Packers’ famous head coach Vince Lombardi, who the Super Bowl championship trophy is named after. He was the head coach for the first two Super Bowl victories, including the first-ever Super Bowl. Quarterback Bart Starr was the MVP in both of those victories.

Soon-to-be Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers and current Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre spearheaded the Packers’ next two Super Bowl runs in 1997 and 2011. Rodgers was Favre’s successor after he left the Packets for the Jets, just as Rodgers did this offseason.

T-3 Dallas Cowboys (5)

1971 (VI), 24-3 vs. Miami Dolphins

1977 (XII),27-10 vs. Denver Broncos

1992 (XXVII), 52-17 vs. Buffalo Bills

1993 (XXVIII),30-13 vs. Buffalo Bills

1995 (XXX), 27-17 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Known as “America’s Team”, the Dallas Cowboys won their first Super Bowl in 1972 against the Miami Dolphins. Bob Lily’s sack on Dolphins quarterback Bob Griese is one of the greatest plays in Cowboys history and helped clinch Dallas’ first-ever Super Bowl championship. Roger Staubach was the quarterback for the first two Super Bowl wins.

Then in the 1990s, the Cowboys created a mini-dynasty, winning three championships in four years. Those teams were anchored by a slew of Hall of Fame players and a Hall of Fame coach in Jimmy Johnson. Troy Aikman quarterbacked the Super Bowls with Emmitt Smith at running back and Michael Irvin at wide receiver.

T-3 San Francisco 49ers (5)

1981 (XVI), 26-21 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

1984 (XIX), 38-16 vs. Miami Dolphins

1988 (XXIII), 20-16 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

1989 (XXIV) 55-10 vs. Denver Broncos

1994 (XXIX) 49-26 vs. San Diego Chargers

The San Francisco 49ers have featured some of the most legendary players of all time, which has helped lead them to five Super Bowl championships. Just a few that come to mind include Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Steve Young, and Ronnie Lott.

Head coach George Seifert won 98 games and led the franchise to two Super Bowls between 1989 and 1996, while Bill Walsh won 92 games and three Super Bowls between 1979 and 1988. Montana was the starting quarterback for the first four, while Young was under center in 1994.

T-1 Pittsburgh Steelers (6)

1974 (IX), 16-6 vs. Minnesota Vikings

1975 (X), 21-17 vs. Dallas Cowboys

1978 (XIII), 35-31 vs. Dallas Cowboys

1979 (XIV), 31-19 vs. Los Angeles Rams

2005 (XL), 21-10 vs. Seattle Seahawks

2008 (XLIII), 27-23 vs. Arizona Cardinals

As the seventh oldest franchise in the NFL, the Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the most historic teams in not just football, but in professional sports. Steelers fans had to wait 42 years until the team won their first Super Bowl in 1975. However, it didn’t take long for them to win another, getting a victory in 1976. They were the most dominant team in the NFL during the 1970s, winning four Super Bowls in six years.

During that stretch of time, the Steelers put together what many consider the best football team of all time. The team was coached by Chuck Noll and featured numerous Hall of Famers including quarterback Terry Bradshaw, cornerback Mel Blount, linebackers Jack Ham and Jack Lambert, and defensive tackle “Mean” Joe Greene. Thanks to those players the nickname the “Steel Curtain” caught on and has forever since been a part of the Steelers identity.

Their most recent Super Bowl victory came at the expense of the Arizona Cardinals in 2009 and was capped off by a game-winning touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Santonio Holmes.

T-1 New England Patriots (6)

2001 (XXVI), 20-17 vs. St. Louis Rams

2003 (XXXVIII), 32-29 vs. Carolina Panthers

2004 (XXXIX), 24-21 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

2014 (XLIX), 28-24 vs. Seattle Seahawks

2016 (LI), 34-28 vs. Atlanta Falcons

2018 (LIII), 13-3 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Over the last two decades, the New England Patriots have been incredibly dominant and vastly hated by opposing fans. At the start of 2002 though, the Patriots had zero Super Bowl championships and were underdogs, even with head coach Bill Belichick and a young Tom Brady.

That year, however, the Patriots shocked the world in defeating the heavily favored St. Louis Rams, aka, “The Greatest Show of Turf” in Super Bowl XXXVI. Their victory against Kurt Warner and Co. would spark the greatest dynasty run that the NFL has ever seen. They managed a combined record of 28-4 during the seasons they won back-to-back Super Bowls in 2003 and 2004, while going 17 straight seasons with ten wins or more from 2003 to 2019. Even though they lost the 2007 Super Bowl to the New York Giants, they steamrolled the league en route to a 16-0 record in the regular season.

Their latest Super Bowl triumph came in 2018 against the Kansas City Chiefs, but their most impressive Super Bowl win has to be that 25-point comeback against the Atlanta Falcons in 2016.
