The Astros have not won consecutive games since their 11-game winning streak was snapped earlier this month, alternating wins and losses, including losing two out of three to the lowly Boston Red Sox.
The Rangers have won five of their last six as they try to cut into the Astros’ six-game lead in the division. A series sweep of the Angels earlier in the week carried them into this weekend series to start a ten-game road trip.
Last night the Rangers managed only five hits though they only needed one as right fielder Kole Calhoun’s solo home run in the top of the fourth inning gave the Rangers a lead they would not relinquish going on to win 3-0 behind Martin Perez’s complete-game shutout.
