NFL Power Rankings After Week 3

Three weeks are in the books for the NFL and it is as crazy as it has ever been. Week 3 saw a few shocking upsets, a few blowouts and one team putting up 70 points. The top of the league is starting to separate itself, but the middle is as jumbled as it has ever been. The Packers and Lions kick off Week 4 on Thursday night, but first we take a look at our NFL power rankings after three weeks.

1 Miami Dolphins 3-0

Last week 1

The Dolphins looked explosive in the first two weeks and then they took on the Broncos and took it to another level. The Dolphins went out and put a 70 spot on a Denver defense that was supposed to be the strong spot of their team. It was an impressive showing by the Dolphins and one that has firmly put them as a favorite in the AFC and at the top of the power rankings.

2. San Francisco 49ers 3-0

Last week 3

The 49ers dominated the Giants on Thursday and have shown why they are one of the favorites in the NFC. They have arguably the best defense in the NFL and the offense is clicking also. They have a ton of weapons and are going to be hard to beat.

3. Philadelphia Eagles 3-0

Last week 4

The Eagles got off to a bit of a slow start on Monday night against the Buccaneers, but they settled in and dominated in the 25-11 win. Jalen Hurts did throw two interceptions, but D’Andre Swift was great on the ground for a second straight game. The defense is still really good and the offense is doing enough to get wins.

4. Buffalo Bills 2-1

Last week 6

The Bills have completely bounced back from a tough loss in Week 1 with convincing wins over the Raiders and Commanders. The defense has come up big the last two weeks while the offense finds its footing. The Bills are once again tough to beat.

5. Kansas City Chiefs 2-1

Last week 7

The Chiefs may have lost in Week 1, but they have put together good performances the last two weeks in wins against the Jaguars and the Bears. They gutted out a hard-fought win against Jacksonville and then just completely outclassed Chicago and once again are in control of the AFC West. They’re back in the top five of the power rankings.

6. Detroit Lions 2-1

Last week 11

The Lions bounced back from an overtime loss to the Seahawks with a dominant win over the Falcons on Sunday. The offense didn’t look great, but the defense was very good in holding the Falcons to just two field goals in the win. The Lions have a huge Thursday night game in Green Bay against the Packers in a battle for first place in the NFC North.

7. Seattle Seahawks 2-1

Last week 12

The Seahawks offense came to play on Sunday scoring 37 points in a win against the Panthers. The defense, though, gave up 27 points to an Andy Dalton-led team. They got the win, though, and now sit 2-1 on the season. They still sit just behind the Lions as Detroit still has a bigger win despite the head-to-head loss. Yeah, it may not make sense, but for our power rankings they are just behind them.

8. Cleveland Browns 2-1

Last week 21

Could the Browns actually be good? They have looked dominant in their two wins outscoring the Bengals and Titans by a combined 51-6 score. Their lone loss was an ugly 26-22 game to the Steelers in which they could have won. They get a big test this weekend as they host the Ravens in a battle of 2-1 teams.

9. Indianapolis Colts 2-1

Last week 19

No Anthony Richardson, no problem for the Colts. Gardner Minshew started the game and led the Colts to an overtime win on the road against the Ravens. The Colts were left for dead to begin the year, but they now sit 2-1 after two straight road victories. They now get four of their next five games at home and have a chance to get a leg up on the AFC South.

10. Baltimore Ravens 2-1

Last week 5

The Ravens did just enough to win their first two games, but came up short on Sunday against the Colts. It was a game they should have won, but they lost in overtime and now sit 2-1 on the season. Lamar Jackson was very good throwing for 202 yards and rushing for 101 yards and two touchdowns. While he was great, he needs more help if the Ravens want to win more games this year. They round out the top 10 in the power rankings.

11. Dallas Cowboys 2-1

Last week 2

The Cowboys take a big drop after their shocking loss to the Cardinals. They looked like one of the best teams in the league through two weeks, but they can’t have losses like they did in Arizona. Losing to the Cardinals makes us rethink what we saw in the first two weeks. They will get tested the next three weeks as the Patriots come to town before they hit the road to take on the 49ers and Chargers.

12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2-1

Last week 10

The Buccaneers lost at home on Monday night to the Eagles 25-11. The offense struggled to get anything going, but the defense held a very potent Philadelphia offense down for a lot of the game. The Bucs are now 2-1 and aren’t quite ready to play with the top teams in the NFC, but they have shown that they are much better than anyone could have thought coming into the year.

13. Pittsburgh Steelers 2-1

Last week 20

It has been ugly, but the Steelers come into Week 4 with a 2-1 record. The offensive line is still a big question mark and they have to get the running game going, but the defense has played well. They head to Houston on Sunday to take on the Texans as they go for a third straight win.

14. Green Bay Packers 2-1

Last week 17

The Packers looked like they were headed for a second straight loss on Sunday as they trailed the Saints 17-0 heading into the fourth quarter. Jordan Love helped lead the comeback, though, as the Packers scored 18 straight points and then held on late to get the win. A gutsy two-point conversion after their first touchdown helped the Packers grab the win.

15. New Orleans Saints 2-1

Last week 8

The Saints were so close to starting the year with a third straight win, but Derek Carr got hurt and they couldn’t hold onto a 17-point fourth-quarter lead. Carr’s health is a question for next week so the Saints will turn to Jameis Winston when they host the Buccaneers on Sunday.

16. Atlanta Falcons 2-1

Last week 9

The Falcons lost their first game of the year on Sunday when they managed just two field goals in a 20-6 loss to the Lions. The offense really couldn’t get anything going against Detroit as Bijon Robinson ran for just 33 yards and Desmond Ridder threw for just 201 yards in the loss. They now head across the pond to take on the Jaguars in London before coming home for two straight home games.

17. Los Angeles Chargers 1-2

Last week 22

The Chargers finally got their first win of the year as they outlasted the Vikings 28-24 on Sunday. The win comes after they lost their first two games by a combined five points. They are now home for two straight against the Raiders and Cowboys. They need to prove they can win those two games or will fall in the power rankings.

18. Washington Commanders 2-1

Last week 14

The Commanders are 2-1 on the season and tied with the Cowboys for second place in the NFC East. That is the good news, the bad news is they were just blown out 37-3 to the Bills and their two wins were against the Cardinals and Broncos. They will get a big test again on Sunday as they must travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles before a Thursday night date with the Bears at home.

19. Cincinnati Bengals 1-2

Last week 25

The Bengals finally got in the win column with a hard-fought 19-16 win over the Rams on Monday night. Joe Burrow played despite the injured calf and he played better. He still wasn’t his normal self as he failed to throw a touchdown and went just 26-49, but he did enough to lead the Bengals to their first win of the year. They now must play their next two games on the road against the Titans and Cardinals.

20. Los Angeles Rams 1-2

Last week 15

The Rams missed a golden opportunity to pick up a big road win on Monday night when they lost to the Bengals 19-16. It was their second straight loss after a big win over the Seahawks in Week 1. The defense played well, but the offense couldn’t find its footing and managed just a single touchdown. Next up is a road matchup with a Colts team that has been better than most predicted coming into the season.

21. Arizona Cardinals 1-2

Last week 29

The Cardinals take a big jump after their shocking upset win over the Cowboys. The Cardinals led the whole game against a Dallas team that many thought was one of the best in the NFL. The Cardinals are now 1-2, but could just as easily be 3-0. They were picked by many to finish dead last, but the Cardinals are showing a lot of fight and might not be as bad as everybody thought. They were big risers in this week’s power rankings.

22. Houston Texans 1-2

Last week 32

The Texans, like the Cardinals, came up with a surprising win on Sunday. The Texans jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead on the Jaguars and then took control late in the third quarter to pull away for a 34-17 win. It was their first win of the year, but rookie quarterback CJ Stroud has quietly had a very good year. Sunday he went 20-30 for 280 yards and two touchdowns.

23. Minnesota Vikings 0-3

Last week 24

Yes, they are 0-3, but they have lost by a combined 13 points in those games. Maybe its karma for winning so many one-score games last year, but they are not as bad as their record would indicate. Kirk Cousins is doing his part as he has already thrown for 1,075 yards and nine touchdowns. It would be MVP-type numbers if the Vikings were winning, but at 0-3 nobody is paying attention.

24. Jacksonville Jaguars 1-2

Last week 13

The Jaguars came into the season as a possible threat to the top teams in the AFC, but through three games they have a long way to go. The offense has struggled through large stretches this season and it has led to two losses in their first three games. They will need to improve if they want to defend their AFC South title.

25. New England Patriots 1-2

Last week 23

The Patriots lone win came on Sunday when they beat the Jets for the 15th straight time. The offense is still a mess, but they did enough to get the victory. Unfortunately for the Patriots they are in a division with the Dolphins and Bills and it is going to be an uphill climb if they want to compete with those two teams.

26. Las Vegas Raiders 1-2

Last week 26

The Raiders have struggled to score points despite having Josh Jacobs in the backfield and one of the best receivers in Devonte Adams. Sunday night they made a puzzling decision to kick a field goal down eight late and it cost them a chance to beat the Steelers. They have to go on the road next week to take on the Chargers and it isn’t going to be easy.

27. Tennessee Titans 1-2

Last week 18

The Titans have not looked good through three weeks and were completely shut down by the Browns on Sunday in a 27-3 loss. Ryan Tannehill has not played well and it might be time that they turn to another quarterback or their season might go down the drain.

28. New York Jets 1-2

Last week 16

The Jets are an absolute mess. Aaron Rodgers went down in the first week and they have looked bad since. Zack Wilson is struggling and it looks like the offense is starting to turn on each other. If this keeps up their dreams of competing in the AFC are going to go down in flames quickly.

29. New York Giants 1-2

Last week 28

The Giants were completely overmatched on Thursday night when they lost to the 49ers 30-12. Daniel Jones is struggling and the offense can’t move the ball against a good defense. They did get a win in Week 2, but it looks like it could be one of the few they get this year. They sit behind their Meadowlands stadium mates in the current power rankings.

30. Carolina Panthers 0-3

Last week 30

The good news is the Panthers scored as many points on Sunday as they did in the first two weeks combined. The problem is the defense gave up 37 points to the Seahawks and they still lost. Andy Dalton played well for an injured Bryce Young, but it wasn’t enough.

31. Chicago Bears 0-3

Last week 31

The Bears are 0-3 and just got beat 41-10, but somehow didn’t have the worst day on Sunday. That belonged to their opponent in Week 4, the Broncos. Justin Fields did nothing to quiet the critics against the Chiefs and the Bears need him to figure it out or they could be heading for a second straight No. 1 pick in the draft.

32. Denver Broncos 0-3

Last week 27

The Broncos are winless, but that isn’t the biggest problem. The bigger problem is their defense just gave up 70 points and they were supposed to be the strength of the team. There isn’t a whole lot else to say. At least they have a shot next week when they play the Bears, but for now they sit at the bottom of the power rankings.
