The 5 best games on the Week 8 NFL slate

Fubo News ranks the five best games for the Week 8 NFL slate. Watch all of them live on Fubo with a free trial.

This week’s slate of NFL games is the best in a few weeks and may be the best of the season. Maybe it was planned to be something special for Halloween weekend, maybe it’s because there are no bye weeks, maybe it’s just luck, or maybe it’s a little bit of all of the above.

From games between potential playoff teams to intriguing divisional matchups, and more, there’s a lot of excitement in Week 8. Given that, while we usually give you five games each week, this week we just had to add an extra spot. Here are the top five games of Week 8.

5. New England Patriots (2-5) at Miami Dolphins (5-2)

Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS

This is a matchup of two teams coming off of very opposite weeks. The Patriots had had life injected into their season with their 29-25 upset win over the Bills, while the Dolphins were humbled with a 31-17 loss to the Eagles.

While this seems like a perfect chance for a get-right game for Miami, the Dolphins are banged up on offense and facing a Patriots team that played them tough in Week 2 (Miami still won 24-17 in Foxboro) and carries in momentum from last week’s win. If the Patriots get another strong performance from quarterback Mac Jones, back-to-back upsets for the Pats aren’t out of the question.

4. Houston Texans (3-3) at Carolina Panthers (0-6)

Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX

The top two picks from the 2023 NFL Draft go head-to-head for the first time, with Bryce Young’s Panthers hosting C.J. Stroud’s Texans. Young was the top pick but Stroud has been the story of this rookie class so far. He has the Texans at .500 and is the current favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.

To be fair, Stroud also stepped into a more complete situation (at least offensively) in Houston than Young did in Carolina. Will Young elevate the Panthers to their first win of the season this week? Or does Stroud show the Panthers that he may have been the right choice at 1/1?

3. Cleveland Browns (4-2) at Seattle Seahawks (4-2)

Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET on FOX

Somehow, some way, the Browns have gotten to 4-2 despite losing their best offensive player (Nick Chubb) to injury early in the year, and with quarterback Deshaun Watson dealing with a shoulder injury. They’ve relied heavily on a defense that is top-10 in the league, led by Myles Garrett and his 7.5 sacks.

This week, they’ll face a Seahawks offense that ranks 11th in the NFL offensively. Seattle has picked up where it left off last year with the resurgence of Geno Smith. Additional offensive weapons have helped Smith create, with rookie receivers Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Jake Bobo emerging as contributors.

Sunday will be a good measuring stick for good teams. If the Seahawks can keep Smith clean in the pocket they should have a good chance to win this game, but that’s much easier said than done.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars (5-2) at Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2)

Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET CBS

Despite their playoff run last year, many were ready to write the Jaguars off after a 1-2 start to the 2023 season. Not so fast! The Jags have since won four games in a row, including road wins in Buffalo and New Orleans. Doug Peterson’s team has another tough road test this week in Pittsburgh against the Steelers.

This is a Steelers team that is playing old-school Pittsburgh football. The defense has led the way, while the offense ranks 26th in the NFL. This is also a team that isn’t afraid of big moments – all four of the Steelers’ wins have been in one-score games. Given that, the Steelers may not have the margin for error they need against a Jags team that can score in bunches.

1. Cincinnati Bengals (3-3) at San Francisco 49ers (5-2)

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS

Like the Jaguars, many were ready to write the Bengals off after a slow start. But Joe Burrow is now healthy, and the Bengals have won three of their last four. Even with an extra week to prepare coming off the bye though, this will be their toughest test of the year so far though against the Niners.

They’re not just facing any Niners team. These Niners are coming off of back-to-back losses, and looking to get their Super Bowl-hyped season back on track. It wouldn’t be surprising for San Francisco to give Cincinnati its best punch on Sunday, in a game that heading into the season, looked like a potential Super Bowl preview.

Regional restrictions may apply.
