Week 5 NFL Power Rankings

Who flexed their muscles and who came up short in the NFL after Week 5?

Week 5 in the NFL was void of a lot of surprises, but the top teams are really starting to stand out, while others should start looking ahead to next year.

Week 6 will kick off on Thursday night when the Broncos take on the division-rival Chiefs, but first, let’s see where each team stacks up in our weekly Power Rankings.

1. San Francisco 49ers 5-0

Last Week 1

The 49ers continued to look like the best team in the league when they whipped the Cowboys 42-10 on Sunday night. They had little trouble taking care of Dallas and stayed undefeated on the season. They hit the road for two straight against the Browns and Vikings, but will be favored in both.

2. Philadelphia Eagles 5-0

Last Week 3

The Eagles are one of just two undefeated teams left and they continue to chug along. They haven’t been flashy this year, but they just keep winning. Sunday they survived an early deficit to the Rams and pitched a shutout in the second half to get the win. Next up is a road game at the Jets before they host the Dolphins.

3. Miami Dolphins 4-1

Last Week 4

The Dolphins shook off their first loss of the year to take down the overmatched Giants 31-16. The speed of the Dolphins is a difference-maker for them and is going to help them win a lot of games. They get the Panthers at home next week before a huge game in Philadelphia in two weeks.

4. Detroit Lions 4-1

Last Week 5

Yes, the Lions look to be good this year. They came into the season with a ton of expectations and they haven’t disappointed. They dominated the Panthers on Sunday and look like the team to beat in the NFC North. They will get tested the next two weeks as they head to Tampa Bay and Baltimore.

5. Kansas City Chiefs 4-1

Last Week 6

The Chiefs are 4-1, but it hasn’t been easy. Three of their four wins have come by one score and they haven’t looked like their normal self on offense. They still have Patrick Mahomes and that is enough against most teams, but will it be enough against the top of the league? We will find out soon as they play the Chargers, Dolphins and Eagles in three of their next five games.

6. Buffalo Bills 3-2

Last Week 2

The Bills dropped after their loss to the Jaguars, but we will cut them a little slack as it is never easy traveling to London to play a game, especially against a team that had been there for a week. The problem, though, may be the relationship between Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs. Diggs appeared extremely frustrated on the sidelines and the rumors of being unhappy are once again coming to the forefront.

7. Seattle Seahawks 3-1

Last Week 8

The Seahawks were off in Week 5 after winning three straight. They have been one of the surprise teams in the league this year and have a prove-it game this weekend when they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals.

8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3-1

Last Week 10

The Buccaneers were also off in Week 5 after starting the year 3-1. Baker Mayfield continues to be good enough to support a really good Bucs defense. Sunday they get a huge test when the Lions come to town.

9. Los Angeles Chargers 2-2

Last Week 11

A third straight team that was on bye last week. The Chargers lost two heartbreaking games in the first two weeks, but have won their last two. All four of their games have come by one possession and that could mean trouble for them as the season goes on. They have a tough next two weeks as the Cowboys come to town on Sunday and then they travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars 3-2

Last Week 17

The Jaguars take a big leap after winning their second straight game in London on Sunday. The Jaguars looked good in beating the Falcons in the first game, but looked even better in the second as they shut down the powerful Bills offense. The Jags now return home for a huge game with the Colts on Sunday.

11. Indianapolis Colts 3-2

Last Week 16

The Colts got a huge home win over the Titans on Sunday and are now tied with the Jaguars at the top of the AFC South. They will be without Anthony Richardson in their game, but Gardner Minshew has played well in relief this year.

12. Dallas Cowboys 3-2

Last Week 7

The blowout loss to the 49ers was bad, but they might be the best team in the league. If you couple it with their loss to the Cardinals, then you have to start questioning if the Cowboys are really any good. Their three wins have come against the Giants, Jets and Patriots. You will find all three of those teams near the bottom of these rankings.

13. New Orleans Saints 3-2

Last Week 22

The Saints also make a big jump this week after absolutely dominating the Patriots 34-0 on Sunday. The Saints are now 3-2, but that includes a game in which they blew a 17-point lead to the Packers. The defense has given up 18 or fewer points in four of their five games and are starting to look like one of the best in the league.

14. Pittsburgh Steelers 3-2

Last Week 20

The Steelers have looked very bad at times this year, but they have still found a way to get to 3-2 on the season. Sunday they shocked the Ravens with 14 fourth-quarter points to steal away a win. Are the Steelers any good? We don’t know yet, but they still sit at the top of the AFC North.

15. Baltimore Ravens 3-2

Last Week 9

The Ravens looked well on their way to completing a road sweep of the three AFC North teams, but they scored just 10 points against the Steelers and blew a fourth-quarter lead. They still sit 3-2 on the season, but Lamar Jackson is struggling in the passing game and it might be time to start worrying about him.

16. Los Angeles Rams 2-3

Last Week 12

The Rams lost on Sunday to the Eagles, but Cooper Kupp was back and made an immediate impact. Kupp’s return, alongside Puka Nacua should make this a dangerous offense moving forward. They get two straight home games against the Cardinals and Steelers and can win both.

17. Houston Texans 2-3

Last Week 13

The Texans looked like they were going to steal a win away from the Falcons and win their third straight game when they scored with 1:49 left. Unfortunately they couldn’t stop Atlanta as they drove down and kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired. CJ Stroud still looks good, but they sit just 2-3 on the season.

18. Cleveland Browns 2-2

Last Week 15

The Browns were on a bye last week and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Deshaun Watson needed the rest after missing their loss to the Ravens. We will learn a lot about the Browns in the next three weeks as they host the 49ers before playing the Colts and Seahawks on the road.

19. Cincinnati Bengals 2-3

Last Week 26

For one week the Bengals offense went back to how it has looked the last two years, but was that because they were playing the Cardinals? Joe Burrow finally got Ja’Marr Chase back involved as they connected 15 times for three touchdowns and 192 yards. It was a step in the right direction, but they need to do it more consistently going forward.

20. Atlanta Falcons 3-2

Last Week 23

The Falcons showed a lot of heart getting a win against the Texans on Sunday as Desmond Ridder orchestrated a last-minute drive to set them up for a game-winning field goal as time expired. They still have a lot of question marks, but get another winnable game on Sunday when they host the Commanders.

21. Las Vegas Raiders 2-3

Last Week 27

It wasn’t pretty but the Raiders snapped a three-game losing streak and beat the Packers on Monday night. The defense stepped up and won the game for the Raiders last hey intercepted Jordan Love three times, including in the end zone to end the game. They have a couple of winnable games coming up against the Patriots and Bears coming up.

22. Green Bay Packers 2-3

Last Week 18

The Packers went out to Las Vegas for a Monday night game against the Raiders and scored just 13 points against the Raiders. Jordan Love struggled as he went just 16-30 for 162 and three interceptions. The Packers get a much-needed bye week before they hit the road again in two weeks against the Broncos.

23. Tennessee Titans 2-3

Last Week 19

The Titans dropped to 2-3 on Sunday when they lost against the Colts. The Titans have alternated wins and losses so far this season which is a good sign for their home game against the Ravens on Sunday, but they need to find more consistency before the season slips away.

24. Washington Commanders 2-3

Last Week 14

The Commanders went from taking the Eagles to overtime to losing to the Bears 40-20 at home on Thursday night. The defense struggled to stop Justin Fields and DJ Moore and the offense struggled to move the ball. They have played well at times, but they can’t lose games like that.

25. Minnesota Vikings 1-4

Last Week 21

The Vikings lost yet another one-possession game on Sunday and their season continues to be a flip from last year. They are now 1-4 and have lost all of their games by seven or fewer points. They head to Chicago on Sunday in a battle of teams going for their second win of the season.

26. New York Jets 2-3

Last Week 24

The Jets finally got their second win of the season, but the offense still needs some work. It is showing signs of getting better, but Sunday they have tough matchup with the Eagles before traveling to New York to take on the Giants.

27. Arizona Cardinals 1-4

Last Week 25

The Cardinals have been competitive in most of their games, but their lack of depth and the talent gap is keeping them from getting wins. It doesn’t get much easier for the Cardinals as they have two straight road games against the Rams and Seahawks.

28. Denver Broncos 1-4

Last Week 30

The Broncos couldn’t get a second straight win as the Jets came to town and beat them 31-21 on Sunday. They get the nod over the Bears thanks to their head-to-head win but could drop with another loss. Thursday they have to go to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs for the first of two games with them in the next three weeks.

29. Chicago Bears 1-4

Last Week 32

For a night the Bears looked like a competent football team as Justin Fields and DJ Moore went off in their 40-20 win over the Commanders. If they play like that they are a good football team, but four of their five games have not looked like that so we need to see it again before they really move up.

30. New York Giants 1-4

Last Week 29

The Giants are bad on offense right now and it doesn’t look like it is going to get any better any time soon. They have dropped three straight and four overall and have scored just 31 points in those four games combined. A trip to Buffalo looms this Sunday and it could be another long day.

31. New England Patriots 1-4

Last Week 28

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The Patriots look lost on offense and the defense isn’t playing well either. Sunday they were awful as they lost to the Saints 34-0. They do have a winnable game next week against the Raiders, but then they play the Bills and Dolphins in back-to-back weeks.

32. Carolina Panthers 0-4

Last Week 31

The Panthers are the last remaining winless team after the Bears won on Thursday night. They have lost a couple of close games, but for the most part, they have been completely overmatched. Sunday doesn’t get any easier as they must travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins.
