An in-form Tottenham team looks to keep building Premier League momentum on the road to Newcastle
A timely jump into the Premier League’s top four has seen Tottenham Hotspur pull back within range of Champions League qualification ahead of a trip to Newcastle United with plenty at stake for both teams. Ange Postecoglou & Co. have moved back up to fourth in the standings for the first time since February after capitalizing on Aston Villa’s recent woes by losing just three of their last 16 top-flight contests. Newcastle, on the other hand, has squeaked its way along of late following last-gasp drama in its last three outings, with Eddie Howe currently contending with an injury crisis that won’t let up.

After coming back from two goals down to beat West Ham 4-3 despite being reduced to 10 men a fortnight ago, the Magpies followed that up by giving Everton an 88th-minute equalizer to draw at home days later.
And Howe’s men were then mere minutes from dropping yet more points at Fulham on Saturday, only for Bruno Guimaraes to time his late run into the box to perfection and snag the 1-0 win:
That was enough to keep Newcastle in eighth ahead of a high-flying Chelsea team for the time being, and there are now just two points between Newcastle and sixth place.
Tottenham is 13 points better off and eyeing more mighty prospects for the end of this season, targeting a return to Europe’s top table in Postecoglou’s first season at the helm.
However, Spurs have shown their struggles on the road of late and gave up points traveling to both Fulham (3-0) and West Ham (1-1) in their last two sojourns outside north London.
It’s highly relevant that Tottenham triumphed 4-1 when these sides last duked it out four months ago, where Richarlison came up with a brace in front of his own fans.
However, Newcastle will be holding onto the fact it won 6-1 the last time it hosted this fixture almost exactly a year ago, when Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy each came up with two goals apiece.
