Non-conference play continues on Tuesday night for Georgia Tech and Auburn in college baseball action.

On Tuesday night, Georgia Tech will host Auburn in Atlanta as the teams take a break from conference play for their mid-week, non-conference matchup. The Tigers are currently in last place in the SEC West standings with a conference record of 4-20 and an overall record of 22-24. The team picked up a 10-9 win against Ole Miss on Sunday to avoid the sweep after trailing by two games. Cooper Weiss and Ike Irish each hit solo home runs while Chris Stanfield and Cade Belyeu each hit doubles to round out the extra base hits. The four combined for five of the team’s ten runs with strong performances at the plate. Parker Carlson earned the win on the mound, coming in during the ninth inning and throwing two strikeouts while only giving up one hit to improve to 3-1 on the season.

The Ramblin’ Wreck has fared much better in conference play this season than the Tigers and are currently in fifth place in the ACC Coastal standings with an overall record of 28-17 and 12-12 against conference opponents. The team traveled to South Carolina over the weekend to take on No. 4 Clemson and dropped two of the three with the finale being a 9-3 defeat. Parker Brosius led the scoring for the Hornets, going 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBI while the third run came from the bat of Payton Green with a solo home run. Tate McKee was pegged with the loss on the mound after pitching 3.1 innings and giving up six earned runs.

Auburn and Georgia Tech already met once this season and the game went in the Tigers’ favor with a 12-8 victory at home.

The Atlanta Braves look to end a three-game losing streak when they host the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.

The Atlanta Braves are trying to get out of a slump and they will start by hosting the Boston Red Sox for a four-game series starting Tuesday. The Braves have lost three in a row coming off a sweep against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Atlanta lost the finale on Sunday by a 5-1 final. Shohei Ohtani did what he does best and rake better homeowners on the first day of Fall. Ohtani homered twice and went 4-for-4 with three RBIs. The lone bright spot in the game was Marcell Ozuna who continues to hit despite Atlanta not initially meeting their lofty expectations. Ozuna hit a solo shot in the seventh to avoid the shutout. Atlanta will return home tonight and be the -175 favorites on Tuesday. The Braves will start Reynaldo Lopez who is 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA.

The Red Sox avoided losing four in a row and the sweep against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday winning 9-2. Boston ended Minnesota’s 12-game win streak in the process. The Red Sox broke out with Ceddanne Rafaela hitting Boston’s first homer in seven games and Rafael Devers matched him to win comfortably. The road doesn’t get easier tonight but the club will be up to the challenge when they start Kutter Crawford who is 2-1 with a 1.56 ERA.

Two teams with high expectations this season are set to clash in New York this week as the Yankees host the Astros.

In the opening contest of a three-game series, the New York Yankees will host the Houston Astros at Yankee Stadium tonight. The Yankees have been phenomenal this season, posting a 23-13 record which is good for second in the American League East. Meanwhile, the Astros are 12-22 and near the bottom of the standings in the AL West. While the records of these two teams are very different at this point in the season, the amount of talent on both squads is remarkable.

In the Yankees’ weekend series, they swept the Detroit Tigers in three games. The Astros hosted the Seattle Mariners in their recent series, but lost two of three games. Now, both of these two teams will clash in a brand new three-game series. While they’ve had very different starts to the season, both of these squads have the talent to make the playoffs and then go on a run from there.

Zac Gallen (3-2) is back on the mound for his seventh start of the season after a modest start by his standards. In his first six starts, Gallen has allowed 12 earned runs in 32.0 innings pitched with 35 strikeouts and a 3.38 ERA through the first segment of the season.

On the other side for Cincinnati on the mound is veteran Frankie Montas (2-2), making his sixth start of the season. He has 14 strikeouts and a 4.19 ERA in 19.1 innings pitched. Montas is looking to get back on track after going a combined 6-12 over the last two seasons combined.

This is the first and only series of the season between Arizona and Cincinnati with the first game today and two more to come Wednesday and Thursday. Both teams finished last year above .500 and as playoff contenders, with Arizona making a run to the World Series.

The Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies square off harkening back to the 1993 World Series when they start a four-game series on Tuesday.

The Philadelphia Phillies have been one of the hottest teams in baseball to start the second month of the season. The Phillies are going for their seventh win in a row after sweeping the San Francisco Giants in four-games. The Phillies are coming off a tight 6-1 win on Monday in the finale. Zack Wheeler pitched great limiting the Giants to four hits in seven innings with 11 strikeouts. Bryce Harper did the most damage at the plate hitting a three-run homer while Kyle Schwarber hit a solo homer in a game that was never really close. The Phillies will look to keep up the momentum by starting Christopher Sanchez. The lefty is 1-3 despite having a 3.68 ERA. Philly holds a three-game lead at the top of the NL East and is the -135 favorite tonight.

The Orioles are looking as good as ever coming off a sweep against the Cincinnati Reds where Baltimore limited its opponent to just two runs over the entire weekend. The O’s have won four in a row in total and hold a one-game lead over the New York Yankees for the top spot in the AL East. Baltimore is coming off a rout of the Reds winning 11-1 on Sunday. The Orioles are a great road team going 11-4 entering this series in the nation’s capital. Dean Kremer was sensational on Cinco de Mayo going six shutout innings while only giving up one hit. Anthony Santander hit a grand slam to help Baltimore cruise to an easy victory. The O’s will start their ace Corbin Burnes who is 3-1 with a 2.61 ERA.

A non-conference matchup will take place Tuesday evening as Portland and Washington State meet in college baseball action.

On Tuesday evening, Washington will host Portland at Bailey-Brayton Field for a non-conference matchup before the teams return to conference play this weekend. The Cougars come into Tuesday’s game with a spot in 10th place in the Pac-12 standings with a conference record of 8-16 and an overall record of 20-26. Over the weekend, the team took on No. 6 Oregon State and forced a rubber match on Sunday after winning 10-9 in game two, but the team lost 10-6 to drop the series. Kyle Russell went 3-for-5 at the plater to lead the team in hitting, but was unable to bring any runs home to contribute to the scoring. Cole Cramer and Joey Kramer each finished with two RBI to lead the scoring efforts. Duke Brotherton dropped to 5-6 on the season with 3.1 innings of work in which he gave up four earned runs.

The Pilots have won three games in a row with the most recent being a 10-4 victory over San Francisco on Sunday to bring the team’s conference record to 13-5 and their overall record to 27-17 for a spot in second place in the West Coast Conference standings. Jake Holcroft and Ben Patacsil each hit home runs to combine for five RBI in the win. Holcroft also hit an RBI single to finish the game with four RBI. Tanner Douglas pitched for 2.1 innings and struck out four batters to earn the win on the mound and remain undefeated on the season.

The Texas Rangers take on the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday afternoon in the second game of a four-game set. The Rangers took the opener on Monday when they erased a two-run deficit with three runs in the eighth and one more in the ninth to get the 4-2 win. The victory was their third in a row and it pushed their record to 20-16 on the season. They now sit a half-game up on the Seattle Mariners for first place in the AL West. The Rangers will look to continue their winning streak when they send Jose Urena to the mound. Urena will be used as an opener as the Rangers will be using Tuesday as a bullpen game.

The second round of the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship tees off from TPC Sawgrass today.

The first round is in the books at the 2024 PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship with the Division I and II events for the men and the women getting back on the links today. After one round of play the men’s leaders are Florida A&M University (Division I) and Lincoln University of Missouri (Division II). The Rattlers are 13 over par holding a 12-stroke lead while the Blue Tigers are also at 13 over par holding a five-stroke lead over the field. For the women’s tournament Western New Mexico University has the lead heading into the second round. The Mustangs hold just a two-stroke lead over the field at 15 over par heading into the second round today.

She is at even par, holding a one-stroke lead over the rest of the field that has two golfers right on her heels. Over in the men’s tournaments, Patrick Mwendapole is at even par holding a two-stroke lead over the field in Division I with Division II led by Austin Shoemaker at four under par. After one round Shoemaker was far and away the top golfer across all fields with the best score after the first round.

The Tacoma Rainiers and Reno Aces open a 6-game Pacific Coast League series at Greater Nevada Field in Reno on Tuesday morning

The Tacoma Rainiers (19-14), the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, continue their 12-game road trip on Tuesday when they open a six-game Pacific Coast League set at Greater Nevada Field against the Reno Aces (15-18). Reno, the top farm club for the Arizona Diamondbacks, returns home after losing five of seven last week on the road to the Las Vegas Aviators. The Rainiers, meanwhile, lost four of six to the Sacramento River Cats. Tacoma trails the first-place Sugar Land Space Cowboys in the first-half PCL standings by three games and stands in fourth place. The Aces occupy seventh place, seven games behind Sugar Land.

In 12 games, he hits .308/.438/.462 with a homer and 10 RBI after missing time with a hamstring strain. Veteran outfielder Kyle Garlick leads the club with eight home runs and 29 RBI.

A battle between Huskies will take place Tuesday as UConn and Northeastern meet in non-conference play.

On Tuesday afternoon, a non-conference matchup will take place as Northeastern hosts UConn at Friedman Diamond. The Northeastern Huskies are currently in third place in the Colonial Athletic standings with a conference record of 14-7 and an overall record of 32-13. Over the weekend, the team took on North Carolina A&T and picked up a 13-3 win in the finale to avoid the sweep. Tyler MacGregor led Northeastern offensively, finishing the game with five RBI from two home runs in the win. Matt Brinker also hit a home run to bring home two runs in the first inning. Wyatt Scotti earned the win on the mound with six innings of work in which he struck out seven batters.

The team’s last time on the diamond resulted in a 5-2 win over Seton Hall in the rubber match to secure the series victory over the fifth-place Pirates. Tyler Minnick powered the Husky offense, going 3-for-4 with three RBI from two doubles and a single. The Pirates’ only runs came from a last-ditch effort in the ninth with two runs, but UConn’s 5-0 lead was enough to hold them off.

UConn and Northeastern met back in March and played a tightly contested game which went in Northeastern’s favor with a 7-6 win.
