A non-conference matchup will take place Tuesday evening as Portland and Washington State meet in college baseball action.

On Tuesday evening, Washington will host Portland at Bailey-Brayton Field for a non-conference matchup before the teams return to conference play this weekend. The Cougars come into Tuesday’s game with a spot in 10th place in the Pac-12 standings with a conference record of 8-16 and an overall record of 20-26. Over the weekend, the team took on No. 6 Oregon State and forced a rubber match on Sunday after winning 10-9 in game two, but the team lost 10-6 to drop the series. Kyle Russell went 3-for-5 at the plater to lead the team in hitting, but was unable to bring any runs home to contribute to the scoring. Cole Cramer and Joey Kramer each finished with two RBI to lead the scoring efforts. Duke Brotherton dropped to 5-6 on the season with 3.1 innings of work in which he gave up four earned runs.

The Pilots have won three games in a row with the most recent being a 10-4 victory over San Francisco on Sunday to bring the team’s conference record to 13-5 and their overall record to 27-17 for a spot in second place in the West Coast Conference standings. Jake Holcroft and Ben Patacsil each hit home runs to combine for five RBI in the win. Holcroft also hit an RBI single to finish the game with four RBI. Tanner Douglas pitched for 2.1 innings and struck out four batters to earn the win on the mound and remain undefeated on the season.

Portland and Washington State have already met once this season and the game went in the favor of the Pilots with a close 3-2 victory.

The Rangers go for their fourth straight game on Tuesday afternoon when they take on the Athletics

The Texas Rangers take on the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday afternoon in the second game of a four-game set. The Rangers took the opener on Monday when they erased a two-run deficit with three runs in the eighth and one more in the ninth to get the 4-2 win. The victory was their third in a row and it pushed their record to 20-16 on the season. They now sit a half-game up on the Seattle Mariners for first place in the AL West. The Rangers will look to continue their winning streak when they send Jose Urena to the mound. Urena will be used as an opener as the Rangers will be using Tuesday as a bullpen game.

Stripling has struggled this season and comes into Tuesday just 1-5 on the season with a 4.24 ERA. The A’s have won his last two starts after losing his first five this season.

The Tacoma Rainiers and Reno Aces open a 6-game Pacific Coast League series at Greater Nevada Field in Reno on Tuesday morning

The Tacoma Rainiers (19-14), the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, continue their 12-game road trip on Tuesday when they open a six-game Pacific Coast League set at Greater Nevada Field against the Reno Aces (15-18). Reno, the top farm club for the Arizona Diamondbacks, returns home after losing five of seven last week on the road to the Las Vegas Aviators. A battle between Huskies will take place Tuesday as UConn and Northeastern meet in non-conference play.

On Tuesday afternoon, a non-conference matchup will take place as Northeastern hosts UConn at Friedman Diamond. The Northeastern Huskies are currently in third place in the Colonial Athletic standings with a conference record of 14-7 and an overall record of 32-13. Over the weekend, the team took on North Carolina A&T and picked up a 13-3 win in the finale to avoid the sweep. David Pastrňák scored 1:54 into overtime on Saturday night to lift Boston past the Maple Leafs in Game 7 of its first-round series.
