Don’t be fooled by New Mexico State’s 24-33 record. Vanderbilt is a college baseball powerhouse, but the Aggies are catching lightning in a bottle as of late.
They can more than hold their own in this elimination game against the Commodores. The Aggies won the WAC tournament by winning four straight games culminating in a victory over Abilene Christian University. They took that momentum into the first round of regionals in a thrilling matchup against Oregon State.

The Aggies sent their first regional game into extras against the Beavers, all knotted up at four. Oregon State is ranked top five nationally and they were playing in their backyard in Corvallis. New Mexico State was very close to the upset but allowed a bases-loaded walk in the 10th for a walk-off Beavers win.
Vanderbilt isn’t having the same season as the program did last year when the Commodores were the runners-up in the College World Series, but they should still be favored today. The Commodores lost to San Diego in another close matchup in the first round. Vanderbilt lost, but it started mounting a comeback. While the Commodores were down 3-0 most of the game, they scored two runs across the seventh and eighth innings. They had the tying run in scoring position in the ninth but couldn’t get the run across.
