LSU will host Vanderbilt on Thursday as the teams open an SEC series.
On Thursday night, No. 7 Vanderbilt will hit the road and head to Baton Rouge to take on No. 18 LSU at Skip Bertman Field at Alex Box Stadium for a top 25 matchup. The Tigers come into this week’s series with an overall record of 20-10, but the team has struggled against SEC opponents and is only 2-7 in conference play which puts them in sixth place in the SEC West standings. On Monday, LSU hosted Southern in a non-conference game that resulted in a 12-7 loss; the team’s fourth in a row. Brady Neal hit a home run in the fifth to bring in two runs, but as one of only four hits in the game, the Tigers struggled to produce offense. Kade Anderson took the loss on the mound for LSU after pitching two innings and giving up three earned runs while striking out six batters.

The Commodores bring a four-game win streak into Thursday night’s game which brings their overall record to 23-6 and their conference record to 6-3. The team’s most recent game resulted in a 3-1 win over Missouri on Saturday to complete the sweep at home. While the team finished the game with only four hits, it only took one to earn the win. Davis Diaz hit a double down the left field in the first which brought home all three of the Commodores runs. Strong pitching and field play allowed for the Tigers to only plate one run so Vanderbilt could complete the sweep and stay in second place in the SEC East standings.
The last time these two teams met was during the 2021-2022 season and LSU swept Vanderbilt, outscoring them 42-15.
