Projecting the College Football Playoff Picture after Week 7

Fubo News projects the college football playoff picture after Week 7. Watch college football on Fubo all season.

Week 7 is in the books and there wasn’t a lot of change at the top in our playoff projections. One team did have their playoff hopes take a hit as USC went to Notre Dame and lost their first game of the year 48-20. Caleb Williams had an uncharacteristically bad day and it cost the Trojans.

Louisville also fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 38-21 loss to Pitt on the road mwhile Florida State stayed hot with an easy win over Syracuse.

North Carolina also stayed unbeaten with a win over Miami and kept its playoff hopes alive and they might not get tested again until mid-November.

This week should shake things up as Penn State takes on Ohio State, Tennessee plays Alabama, Duke tries to upset Florida State and Utah visits USC.

Before we get to a loaded weekend, we take a look at our playoff picks after Week 7.

Top Four

Georgia

The Bulldogs won 37-20 over Vanderbilt in a game that looked closer than it was. They took a hit, though, as star tight end Brock Bowers left with an ankle injury. Bowers had surgery to help accelerate the healing and there is no timetable on his return. Similar procedures in the past have been a month for recovery, but it is to be seen how long he is out. He is a huge part of their offense and they need him back as they head into the toughest part of their schedule.

Michigan

The Wolverines started off slow against Indiana and trailed 7-0 after the first quarter. They woke up and dominated the rest of the game as they won 52-7 with the starters once again not playing in the fourth quarter. The Wolverines now have a rivalry game with Purdue before a bye week. Things don’t heat up for Michigan until the last three weeks of the season when they play Penn State, Maryland and Ohio State.

Washington

The Huskies got the signature win they needed as they slipped by Oregon 36-33 as the Ducks’ game-tying field goal went wide right. Michael Penix Jr. continues to be a star and the Huskies look like the best team in the Pac-12. They still have a tough stretch coming up as they will play at USC, home against Utah and on the road against Oregon State. They control their own destiny, but it isn’t going to be easy.

Oklahoma

The Sooners had the week off after beating Texas 34-30 the week before. They stay in the fourth spot, but they need to win convincingly in their last five games as their schedule is the weakest of the contenders. They have a couple of tricky games but the Sooners will be heavily favored until the Big 12 championship game.

In the Mix

Florida State

The Seminoles have a chance to make another statement on Saturday when they host a very good Duke team. The Blue Devils have already beat Clemson and nearly upset Notre Dame. This is the last ranked team on the Seminoles’ schedule and they need to show why they belong in the top four.

Ohio State and Penn State

We are going to group them together since they play each other this weekend in Columbus. Either team could jump into the top four while the loser will need a lot of help. Both teams still have to play Michigan but they both want to be undefeated heading into that game.

North Carolina

The Tar Heels continue to keep winning and should win easily in the next three games. They will then get tested against Duke and Clemson in back-to-back weeks in November. They seem to be an afterthought right now, but if they win out they will be in the conversation.

Still Have a Chance

Texas, Alabama, Oregon, USC
