Projecting the College Football Playoff Picture after Week 8

Fubo News projects the college football playoff picture after Week 8. Watch college football on Fubo all season.

Two more undefeated teams went down this past weekend as Penn State couldn’t find its offense in a loss to Ohio State and North Carolina was shocked by one-loss Virginia.

USC also lost for the second straight weekend to effectively end its chances of making the college football palyoff. The Utes knocked off the Trojans and still have an outside shot of making the playoff but they will have to win out.

More judgment games are coming up in the coming weeks but first, let’s take a look at our current college football playoff projections.

    Top Four

    Georgia Bulldogs

The Bulldogs had a bye last week and will head to Jacksonville this weekend to play rival Florida. They will then play three straight ranked opponents. The Bulldogs have looked shaky at times this year but they still sit undefeated and stay in the top spot for now.

    Michigan Wolverines

The Wolverines made more headlines this week due to being investigated for stealing signs, but they still went out and dominated rival Michigan State 49-0. Public opinion is going to sour on the Wolverines, but they continue to look dominant going into their bye this week. They still have Penn State, Maryland and Ohio State coming up to end the year and we will learn a lot about them in those three weeks. That’s without even discussing potential repercussions from the reported sign-stealing scandal.

    Washington Huskies

The Huskies nearly blew their shot at the college football playoff as they needed a late pick-six to take down a one-win Arizona State team. One dud of a game won’t hurt them but they can’t do it again if they want to stay in the top four. They have Stanford this week before three straight games against USC, Utah and Oregon State.

    Oklahoma Sooners

The Sooners also nearly lost as they survived a failed two-point conversion to beat UCF on Saturday. It was their first really shaky game and we will keep them in the top four as their win over Texas is still more impressive than Florida State beating LSU, though perhaps not by much considering the Longhorns barely beat a struggling Houston team last week while the Tigers are ranked 15th and 6-2 on the year. The Sooners need to keep winning convincingly if they want to stay ahead of the Seminoles in our projection.

    In the Mix

    Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes could be in the top four but for right now, we don’t think two teams will make it from the Big Ten and we are giving the nod to the Wolverines. The Buckeyes passed a big test on Saturday when they beat the Nittany Lions, but The Game still looms at the end of the season.

    Florida State Seminoles

The Seminoles got a huge win over a ranked Duke team to remain undefeated. They could very easily be in the top four but like the Sooners, they need to keep winning. They will be a favorite in their last four games but rivalry games with Miami and Florida could be tricky.

    Alabama Crimson Tide

The Crimson Tide lost early but they have won every game since. They can’t afford another loss but have looked impressive in wins against Ole Miss and Tennessee. A game against LSU is coming up next week and that will tell us a lot if the Tide stay in the hunt.

    Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns survived Houston last weekend and are still very much in the hunt. They will need to win out and then beat Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship game and then still need some help. It isn’t impossible, though, but they need to be impressive the rest of the year.

    Still Have a Chance

    Utah, Oregon, Oregon State
