Indiana (23-12) looks to get on track after stumbling to an 0-6 start in Big Ten Conference play when it hosts archrival Purdue (14-18) at Andy Mohr Field on Wednesday night in college softball. The Hoosiers come off a sweep at the hands of Michigan last weekend and have lost three straight overall. Purdue took two of three from visiting Rutgers last weekend, its first two Big Ten victories of the campaign, to improve to 2-4. Indiana enters with an 8-3 record at home while the Boilermakers are 3-6 in true road games. The Hoosiers were an NCAA tournament team a season ago, their first trip since 2011, while Purdue hasn’t been to the NCAA tourney since 2009.

Aly VanBrandt slashes .370/.418/.444 for Indiana while Cora Bassett leads the team with eight home runs. Taylor Minnick paces the squad with 36 RBIs. The Hoosiers are also aggressive on the base paths with 80 stolen bases in 96 attempts. Brooke Benson is 12-for-12 in her thievery, while Brianna Copeland also has stolen 12 bags.
Sage Scarmardo hits .375/.527/.450 for the Boilermakers, who have hit just nine home runs this season. Moriah Polar, Tyrina Jones and Hailey Hayes each have gone deep twice and Polar leads the club with 15 RBIs, while also stealing 16 bases in 20 attempts. Khloe Banks is 15-of-17 on the base paths.
Copeland leads the Indiana pitching staff, working to a 2.48 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 96 innings with 103 strikeouts. Julia Gossett has a 5.46 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 62.2 innings for Purdue, while Kendall Klochack has recorded a 4.68 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 50 innings.
